***** The Official Galaxy Nexus Thread *****

Had a good long play this afternoon, the phone I bought is from 3 on contract but is unlocked which I'm pleased about.
I can confirm you can drag and drop files from a computer directly onto the phone, I can also confirm it will play 720 mkv files perfectly with Dice player
Not sure if its been mentioned before :-) but the screen is amazing :-) ..... very very happy so far.

(A bit of a rubbish) camera comparison here with the Galaxy S II. The Galaxy S II is certainly better but there isn't a great deal in it -

Yeah from the various comparisons I've seen the S2 is the slightly better camera.

S2 is sharper and produces more saturated photos, possibly able to match with firmware update on the GN.

Galaxy Nexus seems to focus better in macro mode and exposes better in low light at the expense of noise and therefore detail.

Both are more than adequate though, shouldn't disappoint anyone really.

I do feel a bit meh about the camera, especially compared to the Exmor sensors out there in phones. But thinking of it, if I really really wanted decent quality in my pictures I'd get a Camera that was built to take decent photos. The galaxy camera is good yes but for me personally it's still not that decent when compared to an average Compact Camera.

Moving from an iPhone 4 to the GNexus the camera will be a bit worse I reckon, but it won't matter to me. Also, android needs VLC to stop the video issues!:)

There's another one here: http://hemorrdroids.net/samsung-galaxy-nexus-vs-samsung-galaxy-sii-s2-camera-test/

The GSII has considerably better details when looking at the images in their larger size. It looks better to me in just about all the pictures aside from night and some macro shots (and the shot with lens flare), where the Nexus does a lot better.

I do find the colours of the SGII a bit over saturated, but most of the Nexus shots have this soft, fuzzy quality that obscures all the details.

I'm sure I could live with either though.

I was this >< close to buying an iPhone 4s today mainly due to its camera but I came to my senses, I've got cameras that do that jod better.

I didn't know Andy had done one. He came to the conclusion the Galaxy Nexus is better though, which is a bit odd as the SGS2 seems to capture detail a lot better, especially outdoors. It doesn't take much to get phone camera pictures to vary though, a cloud moving for example can have a profound effect.

The low light performance of the Nexus is very good though, as are the macro shots. I suppose with the instant shutter speed, you could argue it edges it.

Anyway, it's good news that the Nexus camera is decent. :)

So.......what are peoples impressions now that they have had it 24hrs???

Any issues?
Good points?
Bad points?

knit-picking issues??

Really would like to know. Many thanks!!!

I'm really, really missing swipe. I can't use the stock ICS keyboard for ****! Enjoying the notification LED and larger resolution though. I've set the text size to small too, I can fit loads on the screen now.

I don't think it was Andy's comparison, but another guy who works on the site.

Btw, is it me or are the zebra crossing lights in one of the night pictures turned off in the SGSII picture and turned on in the Nexus one? Not that it would make the SGSII picture look better than the Nexus if they were on, but it seemed an odd choice to include as a comparison :)

diceplayer works a charm with 720p files. The screen is absolutely lovely. So crisp, clear and sharp! Quite impressed!

Yes please

Hi,

Sorry guys, seems this is bugged. First time I created a Facebook log in via Accounts & Sync I did have a menu function once I was logged in. Have not been able to get this to come back up.

Even removed the account and Facebook app but still won't bring up the option menu.

I can however create a Facebook account and these are the screen shots showing that:-

Create Account - Account & Sync

Select Facebook - takes you to Facebook Log In

First time I did it. Menu button was as shown below. Can't get it to show up again though.

FriendCaster seems to be working ok though.

You can change text size, system wide? Does this also make everything else smaller, like turning down the DPI on older android versions?

Yes :) Some widgets like weather don't update though.
