Why is my Dell 1558 always running so hot!

I know its 4 cores and all but my fans always seem to be at max after around 30 minutes of just web surfing!

Is there know custom fan I can put in to allow lower temps. sick of the heat issues!

61c for the CPU just web surfing

Mine came with the A12 BIOS.

My XPS 17 is quiet before the CPU or GFX heats up but for example running a game for 20 minutes everything heats up and the fan is noisy. Back at the desktop the fan remains noisy even when the CPU and GFX has cooled down which is kind of annoying.

Here is a shot of it after it's cooled down and the fan is blowing cold air out of the side exhaust port:

The memory modules have retained the heat (~65c) as has the primary HDD (49c) but when the system is first turned on the memory and HDD remain cool (~35c).

The heat produced by the CPU and GFX spreads throughout the laptop and it stays there because there isn't a means of dissipating it. I'm thinking a laptop cooler with a fan to cool the memory and HDD might be the only solution.

The Zalman ones are very good.

My daughter uses a NC1500 on her laptop. Its virtually silent and keeps the temps in check.

Thanks, I browsed a few different brands and the Zalman NC1500 looks good as does the bigger ZM-NC3000U. I'm thinking of going for the NC3000U for my XPS 17 due to it's bigger size.

I found my old 15" laptop cooler and tested with it and what a difference it makes:

The NC3000U should perform even better.

Open it up and dust it out (if youve had it for a while)
Yeah it's still like new and is clean.

The problem is that the XPS 17's cooling system is unable to dissipate heat that has spread beyond the CPU and GFX (the memory modules and hard drives become hot and stay hot) resulting in the exhaust fan staying active and noisy even when it's blowing out cold air.

The laptop cooler solves the problem by blowing cool air into the vents underneath the laptop which helps to dissipate the heat that has spread throughout the laptop resulting in the exhaust fan slowing down and eventually becoming silent.

as far as i know, i7 laptop is running hot than normal laptop. Tj max is about 100c for i7 Mobile processor. a bit too hot though for a laptop.

Yeah the temperature increases close to Tjmax very quickly suggesting the heatsink in the XPS 17 isn't very efficient or perhaps it is too small for a 45w CPU.

Dell continuing their tradition of failing to cool decent hardware properly

My ancient Dell XPS Gen 2 killed a 7800GTX because the fans weren't good enough.
