Is it a worth while upgrade? Is there much difference? Will be gaming at 1920x1080 and the 8800 struggles sometimes.

Not been playing much in the last year or 3 and want to get back into it.

Many thanks

Your current 8800GTX is a good match for your existing CPU...but if you want to upgrade to faster card, you'd have to look into upgrading the CPU to Quad as well to get the most out of it, since your CPU WILL bottleneck any card at GTX460/6850 or above.

Other option is to find another 8800GTX and sli them up and wait for 1-3 months for all the new stuff. Current stuff will be cheaper then so you could get more bang for your buck that way.

I had troubles with x2 8800's untill using afterburner to get them both to the same clock levels, then any micro stutter was removed, am playing deus x and similar at playable settings now, while waiting.

Don't think another will fit mate but will look into it.

Cheers

as well as fitting you have the heat to contend with. I have three 8800gtx in trisli and the heat and noise is tremendous and resulted in me having to mod my case to get more air in. By the way I have the same PSU as you and that copes admirably :)

I have the same cpu as you overclocked to 3ghz i went from a 8800gtx to a 560 gtx mainly because i was getting 15fps in bf3 at low setting at 1920 1200 which was unplayable, now with the 560 i get between 25 and 40 fps with most settings on high which is playable, although now iam cpu limited time for an i5 i think.

Ta for the reply - thought the 6700 looked like a better card.

What's my best upgrade option, for around the £100 mark, ish. Can prob stretch a little higher if required

The 6770 is only a rebranded 5770...and going from a 8800GTX to it is a bit like upgrading from 4850 to 4870...the performance increase is simply too little to be considered a worthwhile upgrade.

Go for a 6850 or GTX460 1GB as bare minimum.

As mentioned, your cpu will be a bottleneck here, at least to quite a degree anyway. However, I do actually think that moving from an 8800gtx to a 560 would be prove to be a big boost. However, ideally upgrade to a quad core cpu and wait for AMD's 7000 series.
