Then I had to switch it off, unplug it from the charger, open the back again, remove the battery and my sim card, carefully repackage it good as new (no one will ever be able to tell that I played with it, I swear!), and now have to call 3 again to ask to return it - its completely unused and unopened of course .... :( :( :(.

Doesn't it store the number of the SIM it was first switched on with ?

You may get a call from the next owner .............:D

Oooops, its returnable as long as I havnt made any calls / texts / used the internet, and everything is in perfect condition.

Everything is mint, except for my grubby fingerprints, full 5 mp picture warning:

Seriously, other than the volume issue, the phone is absolutely excellent.

I’ll second that and the issue(s) will be resolved. You are buying into an ICS platform showcase and this phone is most certainly that. Let’s not forget that being a Google “developer” phone you will have OS updates for bugs and enhancements before manufactures lay their hands on them. I've had a smile on my face since the 17th and it will be like that for the foreseeable future.

Bizzarre.

Once you open the media player icon, you then see a mapped drive. ala a USB Key.

there is no problem here what so ever.

edit - I see the problem now.

All you can really see is media files, instead of all installed application folders etc etc etc. I don't see this as a big deal at all. In fact, I prefer it. It doesn't clutter up the drive with system folders etc, and I can navigate to exactly what I want with ease.

lol bhav, keep it!

Well I already cut the sim card up and have the returns bag coming, so I cant.

Im not rich, I really cant afford to keep this, and my 50% lifelong reduction with T Mob :(

I cant lose my T mob discount, I get an uber tariff for half price and free upgrades every 18 months.

The One Plan is just slightly more uber, but also slightly more expensive and 24 months.

Of course you don't see it as a problem, you're not a power user. However, for the many of us that are, it's a strange, strange, and unexpected omission.

define power user?

I don't develop but I most certainly am intent on rooting, flashing and editing the framework of my phone.

Well according to Yodel (weird that of all the names DHL could have went for they chose that.....) it is out for delivery today. It is o2. I will try and see if I can replicate the volume issues with it, I probably can, but still can't wait to have it and play. My first ever android!

Rather than upgrading on o2 i'm considering paying off the last month of my contract, getting a sim only 12 month three deal and buying the phone outright from handtec. Works out quite a bit cheaper that way too.

Ok going to go for it, i will try retentions, if what they offer isn't good enough ill just keep the desire on payg

Are people still buying these then? Where is best to buy one sim free?
Anyone know how much it will cost me to pay off my last month of my o2 contract?

o2 will charge you your last bill. So if you are on a £35 tariff they will charge you that. 3 and P4U are both doing sim free versions.

Cheapest way to get this is a 24 month contract direct through o2, going through quidco for £50 cashback. Works out you pay a total of £455. I ordered the Note instead of this but through the same tariff.

Yeah you HAVE to buy a 3 sim with it, it costs £10. BUT the phone is unlocked so you can pop in whatever sim you want.
