*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

Got my beta invite this morning, although I think I may be needing a slight upgrade to play it?

E8400 @ 3ghz (Stock)
4GB PC6400
ATi 3450 256MB card (Bought it new from ocuk for £27 after my 4890's kept dying)

Think a new graphics card (Any suggestions, don't wanna spend TOO much) should be ok? Maybe with an extra 4GB RAM?

If you were to upgrade anything I think a better choice would be your graphics card as opposed to more RAM. I could be wrong though :p

Anyone know what uk time the beta starts at the weekend according to one guy on one of the live feeds its 4am our time ekkkkkk?

Depends which group you're in, you should get another email saying which you're in and what times your group can log in from.

No need for the extra RAM. As for graphics, how much is 'too much'?

You could also look into overclocking that E8400, I believe they overclock quite well.

Someone posted a official message about the beta times on the last page of this thread.

Good God man! Upgrade the graphics card! Everything else is fine. Either a Radeon 6850 or something cheaper from members market

Oh no, I know the graphics card is the firs thing that needs doing, absolutely!

I meant would an extra 4GB RAM help here, or would the CPU be too much of a bottleneck anyway?

I had a very similar computer to what you have when I tested the beta a while back. Granted back then shadows just destroyed my FPS (talking halved or more), it's probably not the case now. But with an E8400 @ 3Ghz, 4GB PC6400 and a ATi 4850 I was pulling high settings at 1360x768 and 35 - 60 FPS. Allowing some headroom for customisation of both drivers and the client you should be okay with something like a 5850 or around that.

Extra Ram will not help in any way you'd notice. Overclock the cpu and get a better graphics card.

Answers my questions, thankyou both, will look aroudn for a good priced 5850 and see about an overclock although I'll plead ignorance on having no clue how to :D

Haha, calm down. I was just implying that EA are cheapskates sometimes, and I assume they've funded the servers and server-related things for this, not Bioware themselves...

very calm , just amused what you wrote! I'm glad you have an incite to EA's and Bioware's IT infrastructure.

EU servers are based in Ireland at Bioware's/EA's data centre which has recently opened.

not saying there are not going to be problems but I really think they have done their homework, they cant afford not to...

Grr, trying to play and it just gets stuck on the SWTOR splash screen, the loading icon is moving but, yea it's not loading.

I have full beta so inb4 "It doesnt start until weekend"

EDIT: Think there might be maintenance but not sure

I agree, it was just a jestful remark as EA are cheapskates on occasion! :p

Is it me or is the Swtor website down for maintenance almost daily now? With release so close strain on the website is only going to increase, if it can't handle it now I'm not sure how it is going to survive launch...

I think it's every Tuesday it goes through maintenance isnt it? Agree it is down a lot though - I'm hoping it's due to tonnes of upgrades in prep for launch.

Hum, played another 30mins and got bored already, maybe I'm just not in the mood. Also performance seemed to be worse than yesterday, weird.

I really hope I got in the first wave for Friday, I have been waiting to play this game for a long time! I know it's less than a month to go now until release but for me this is the closest thing to a demo to make up my own mind. Been reading so much of the feedback and I'm one of the happier folk that they've stuck to the tried and tested designs we're used to but with some new features thrown in to the mix. Would like to see some focus on Guild Housing and World PVP post-launch.

I think everybody would like to be in the first wave to get maximum game time out of the weekend. I accepted the invite and started downloading at 7am(GMT) yesterday, I must have accepted it ahead of most people(Was first to post on here about it) so I'll be surprised if I'm not in the first wave..

EDIT: Would be nice if they could focus on Guilds(Capital ships etc.) and more PvP after launch.
