**The Official Nokia Lumia 800 Thread***

Wish they would hurry up and release the software update to allow internet sharing/tethering.

What? It doesnt allow. tethering ??????

NNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Im sending back my galaxy nexus and keeping my current contract now:

FREE Nokia Lumia on Feb 1st
£29.35 pm for 18 months (£528)
900 mins or 1800 texts (includes 08 numbers but they eat up the £180 allowance fast) , 10 Gb internet with modem and voip use.

I NEED TETHERING!

Also I called T mob again to ask about the 3 month early upgrading - its only for their high value customers which only make up 5-10%, and the only way I can upgrade early is by buying out the remainder of my remaining tariff .... at full price of £58 pm :(

I read more about the tethering issue, and they. said it will come in a software update and the lack of it was the FCC or somethings fault. But theres no mention of when, so now I have to find the Nokia forums to whine on.

Yeah this is what worries me :p My contract can be renewed beginning of Jan.

It's always the way with phones - a better one is just round the corner. I really like the look of the 800 however i think Nokia have something up their sleeve for the US launch so i may switch to a giffgaff sim until that is announced and make my decision then.

It never used to matter with 12 month contracts but they are like goldust now and usually poorly priced. Got a 24 month contract for my current phone and it's just too long. 18 max this time or sim free.

I found my old tariff on T mobs website, and a 12 month variant.

Mine is 18 months, £57.50 inc vat, Flext 35 + Web n Walk Max with £180 allowance for texts and calls, 10 Gb internet.

The 12 month variant is £62.50 inc vat, Flext 40 + Web n Walk Max with £150 allowance for texts and calls and 10 Gb internet.

This 12 month variant is even older than the 3 x 18 month age of my tariff, because when I took mine it was only available in two 18 month options - Flext 35 + WnW Max for £57.50, or Flext 50 + WnW Max for £72.50.

Flext 40 wasnt available anywhere with WnW max - it would have only been £2.50 more with either £150 allowance on 12 months, or £225 allowance on 18 months :(

All the inc vat prices are 2.5% higher now, so mine went up from £27.25 to £29.35 when the vat increased.

This was the best tariff ever if you had staff discount for life and I got it, but missed the 12 month Flext 40 version.

Side note:

Mine has just done it's random little power off and won't turn back on thing again. Took a good 15-20 minutes of holding the power button on for 30+ seconds at a time to get any life out of it at all (it vibrated for 10 seconds), then holding the power button again made it boot up.

Looks like I'll have to take it back.

Oh, and also on my Flext 35 + WnW max tariff ... I can add an unlimited text booster for £5 pm (one of the people I called over the last few days advised me on this and asked if I wanted it, but I said noty as I only use the data).

But if I add on that booster, it becomes £34.35 pm for 900 mins (inc 08 numbers but they reduce the allowance faster), unlimited texts, 10 Gb internet with voip and modem use.

Boosters and addons dont get discounted, hence why I took the web n walk max tariff as that was only way to get half price internet.

Mobile broadband on a phone with no tethering? Please explain how...

Mobile broadband on a phone with no tethering? Please explain how...

Well given that the term "broadband" is a coined public term meaning a collection of technologies that allow a high-bandwidth data connection to the internet, the phone DOES have "mobile broadband" through the use of HSDPA+.

The fact that it can currently only be used by the phone itself is moot.

"Broadband" doesn't exist.

So you are saying that people/companies make up their own descriptions for non-standardised naming conventions?

Makes it even less important that it's even so much as listed on the spec sheet.

In other words, it does what it does, and that spec list isn't contactually binding in the slightest.

In other news the updates for the HD7 and Trophy came out recently so I doubt that the Lumia will be that far behind. It should get tethering imminently.

Have you ever used T mobile?

http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobile-broadband/usb-stick/

'Mobile Broadband' is what they refer to as tethering. This can be done via a mobile phone with a contract which allows tethering (as I have), or with a USB 3G internet stick.

Its simply their name for the tethering service they offer, just as much as the tech company known as Apple doesnt actually have anything to do with the fruit :p

(but in this case, it has something to do with broadband, mobile broadband from T Mobile = Tethering).

If they list 'Mobile Broadband' as a handset feature, that means that they are listing tethering as being possible on that handset.

I doubt that the Lumia will be that far behind. It should get tethering imminently.

Yes, I hope so.

Spoke to CPW and they have no idea when they will get lumia in other colours than black...So I rang Nokia only to be told that all colours have been released in UK...so whats going on??

While the leaked Lumia 900 stuff looks interesting, tbh 4.3" is too big for my liking, especially when limited to 800*480 as WP7 is at the moment. Maybe Nokia's special allowances for WP7 will let them develop a higher resolution version but I don't really see that, and 800*480 is plenty.

I actually prefer the look and size of the Lumia 800 to the 900, plus dont they both have the same CPU and hardware, just a different screensize and look?

Well, as I can't get a Galaxy Nexus now for a short while at least (due to the fact they are all faulty), my attention turns to a blue one of these... damn it. :( :p

I want a blue one too, but they are rare!

T mob definitely told me they had them in blue and black, but someone else here was told they only had them in black

Its only a single core 1400 Mhz CPU and 512 mb ram compared to 1.2 Ghz dual core and 1 Gb ram on the nexus though, but its cheaper and much more affordable, and likely not bugged.

The only issue is no tethering yet, but microsoft said it will added in as an update.

Boo hoo ;)

For a strange reason, cpw closed at 530pm...I would go for black if there is no blue :)

I dont think I could wait if their wasnt a blue on in the first week of December, that how much I liked playing with my friends.
