Suspended, Banned, Permabanned.

I understand the point of being suspended and permabanned.

But what is the point of just banned.

Surely it's the same thing as suspended.

This came to my attention when I saw how many well known personalties on this forum have been recently been suspended in the past few days.

What's going on?

Suspensions are for a few days/week.

I guess bans are for a more extended period?

The implication is that a ban can be rescinded one day.

i thought a ban was the loss of your account, but a permaban was a complete ip ban so you cant make another one

They all are the same, it just puts the user into a certain usergroup. We rarely use Banned, just suspended and permabanned.

Permabans used to be reserved for people who had done something to really **** off Spie and marked you as someone who would never be welcomed back here. Whereas bans were just for your run of the mill bannable offences. Permas are given out a bit too freely nowadays and have lost their impact.

I've got a feeling banned just stops you from posting, but permabanned will stop you from even viewing if you're logged in?

Or inconsistently when some posters are perma'd because they offended a mods favourite. Which leaves you with a 31 page britboy thread. Who incidentally is only suspended.

Spie was the king of the permabans, was normal to see an axed don with the new permaban title. Ahh gone are the days....

I'm sure I've seen people post in up to date threads who still have one of the above under their forum name - always seemed a bit odd but maybe they had just been banned that day?

/or is someone getting lazy and not correctly re-assigning user groups post ban?
