***** The Official Galaxy Nexus Thread *****

Well, as long as it's actually fixed I don't think anyone will care.

Yes for sure if its a proper fix at no compromise to any other areas, ie; battery life or a clumsy fix such as having the volume at fixed level, I was as keen as anyone else to get this phone but it aint looking good imho, heres hoping tho :)

When im in contaxt click on accounts I have:

Gmail.
Hotmail.
Whatsapp

I click on add account and select facebook click on add and it just goes back to the accounts & sync screen?

Furthermore, can you sync freinds in contacts like you did on desire with fb or google+ so their birthdays status updates come through etc?

Edit

When i look under contacts and click on them i don't have the add connection button like shown on the below screen shot

I've put myself onto a rolling contract with Vodafone and not sure if I will bother with the Nexus any more... Might see what the new year brings. :)

Google are reporting they have a software fix for the issue -

The Galaxy Nexus volume bug has been squashed in Google's labs. The Android software maker has just announced it has a fix for the problem plaguing UK owners of the new Nexus, which will be rolled out "as soon as possible." Here's Google's statement in full:

"We are aware of the volume issue and have developed a fix. We will update devices as soon as possible."

It was starting to look like the pseudo-random volume fluctuation on the device was a hardware issue, one that would potentially require replacement of affected handsets, but Google's promise of an update would seem to indicate that's not the case.

Promising news.

Why do people even bother with O2 or Vodaphone? They suck lemons for 3G.

Perhaps, but 900MHz penetrates buildings better so than 1800.

As an example, at work I can pick up o2 or Vodafone while inside, nothing else, unless near some windows, but not all, which is hardly convenient. I can get Vodafone HSPA at work, o2 GPRS.
Outside of work, Three, Orange, T-Mobile all fall back to an Orange 2G cell which is barely good even for voice, with the other party complaining of breakup.

It is for this reason that I am returning my Nexus on The One Plan, sadly :( Not even opened it...wish I tested before I ordered but nm. No good having all that data if I get no threegees at work!

I hope they can properly confirm before Saturday, must be hurting sales! If /when (depends how positive you are) I will go get this, just as long as it's not something like 'press this when you do this'

I really don't want to get this phone and come to the point of selling and it be worth less than my desire!

I would prefer if they said it def wasnt a hardware issue, and/or how the fix works.

Imagine there's a signal line that's pegged at 0v and when the volume circuit bridge connects it takes it to 5v to indicate user input. The other end may have been programmed so as soon as it sees >0.2v then it needs to change the volume but this amount is so low and thus so sensitive it responds to interference often. All that needs to happen is the OS needs to configure the minimum voltage indicator to be raised by X, job done.

Honestly, I've seen tons of worse issues on handsets in the last few years, even the big boys arn't against trying to make howlers like their entire radio shutting down after a 60 minute call etc... It's pretty amusing this has happened don't get me wrong but my advise to everyone is to keep calm and carry on - even if this doesn't fix the issue (but I highly expect it to) then there will be a final fix delivered for this as it's reference.

Excellent overview, sounds plausible and would be an acceptable fix.

Anyone remember the pink tint issue (for dark and grey backgrounds like the menu) that original AMOLED displays (Nexus One and HTC Desire) had? I'm having the same problem at low brightness.

^

we don't know its a hardware fault. google have not said that have they?
