I wonder if anyone can help. I've got an HTC Desire S that I received on Friday. Apart from being amazed by how poor the battery life is (it is my first smart phone) I have been blown away with it.

This morning though I too kit off charge (green light was on indicating a full battery), switched it on and shoved it in my pocket. When I arrived at work less than an hour later without having touched the phone it was down to 38%

I've had it on charge via my laptop and mini USB cable for most of the day and it is currently sat at 70%.

As I say the battery life has been quite poor but I still got the 14 hours or so out of it before the thing started requesting a top up that most users get and it is worth bearing in mind that it is still in the new toy phase :p

Is this random 60 odd percent drop something to be concerned about or do these things just happen occasionally?

Something must have caused it, have a look at your battery stats.

Settings > About Phone > Battery > Usage (something along those lines :p)

Now and then an app misbehaves and gobbles a ton of battery. I had it with Facebook the other week.

I had a look on there and nothing seems out of the ordinary

I did notice that the uptime was odd, it couldn't have been at 0 this morning judging by the awake time but it is less than it would have been if I had left the phone on for two days. I wonder in an app could have interrupted the charging in some way even though the light was green

Tbh, I've noticed my Desire S has suffered a battery drop. Doesn't seem as bad as yours, but it isn't as good as it use to be. Could get through 2 days of general usage, but now seem to be charging each night.

Straight out the box the battery life isn't always the best - seems to stabalise after a few charges.

One app I find pretty bad for battery is Spotify - even idle it seems to drain battery several times faster than normal.

Interesting, guess what the latest app I installed was...

Hah its terrible on my windows phone - just opening it and immediatly closing spotify = battery runs down in <8 hours even without the app open which is very weird (I've checked processes to make sure it hasn't crashed in the background, using data/GPS, etc.) only thing that stops it doing that is restarting the phone :S

On android I've not noticed the same problem after closing it but battery definitely runs down faster just with the app idle.

Shame really as its pretty much an essential app to me.

Yes Spotify is pretty crud tbh. Kills battery life very quickly. Get yourself an app to kill apps or find someway to terminate Spotify completely...

Did this, got advanced task killer... or something like that and killed off the idle Spotify process.

Phone is behaving itself today. Still over 80% and I've had mobile internet on for most of the day syncing calendar items and Evernote notes as and when I've needed and has been acting as a wifi hotspot for the last half an hour
