Thinking of getting a passive 3D TV for Christmas and was wondering if it'll work in 3D on PC games and films on my PC? Would I need an nVidia GPU or would an AMD GPU work with some software?

Also any advice on what 3D TV I can get for around £400? (also the bigger the better!)

Thanks for any help in advance! :D

Sorry no help but is this passive 3D like the nintendo 3DS as it's headache inducing....

400 is a push, I have a panny st 30 hooked to my htpc with a 8800gt that just detects when a 3d signal power being sent and switches. For games you need the nvidia kit I believe

Not passive for £400 but richer sounds do active LG TV's i have a 42" i got it for £400 with a bit of discount i eventually got it for £360. i found active actually better for my eyes than passive. Each to their own i guess. ATI cards INHO work better for 3D content on non NVIDIA monitors. Ive seen people have a lot of problems with NVIDIA on 3D TV's.

My advice is get what ever 3D TV suits you but go for ATI card and use a programme called TriDef :) That will save you a lot of time believe me

Cheers, although I find the passive glasses better on my eyes and more comfortable. What res is the TV you bought? :)

I have a Passive 3D TV, the LG550T. Love the tv but I would not recommend passive 3d for gaming unless you are sat some distance from the tv, like you would with an xbox.

I have tried it on various games with 3rd party 3d drivers on my Nvidia card and when sat close, say for racing with a steering wheel the 540p resolution looks horrid and totally unplayable.

Its a real shame but I believe when passive goes 2k or 4k, things will look much better for passive 3d gaming.

That said if you do sit 6-8 feet away you could get a nice experience.

Do they not do passive 3D above this res?? .. 1080p perhaps?

I think what he was saying is that as your tv is producing two images, the 1080 is split in two, ie two 540 images.

Yeah that is correct, 2 polorised 540p images but unfortunately that does not produce a 1080p image as much as I'd like it too, it just doesn't.

For me though sky 3d and bluray 3d are still amazing as long as you are sat a decent distance from the tv, too close and you can see the lines.

For gaming I stick to 2d. Although crysis 2 was pretty cool as it has its own 3d SBS mode, I just couldn't play it with my joypad which was the only way to play at a decent distance. Mouse & keyboard for me please.
