Tyres: All season tyres, do we have them in the UK?

I had some conti winter tyres on my polo by march when the weather had warmed up a bit, it felt like I was driving on sponges. So yeah winters tyres are only good for, well, winter!

Buying super budget all season tyres strikes me as being rather counter productive.

GoodYear, Hankook, Pirelli, Nokian, Bridgestone and Vredestein are not budget brands.

Or do you call premium as super budget?

Lol at your posts. Obviously yes I was referring to Goodyear.

So Goodyear is a super budget tyre? You are using "Super Budget" to mean premium then?

Seriously Fox make some sense rather than trying to be a smart***, using accepted terminology would make it far easier for you to be clever in this case.

If we are comparing to importing from the states, let's see...

US tyre won't be E-marked (possibly) 8% duty and 20% VAT on item and shipping costs (assuming it is done legally) assume £50 shipping, so £300+28% = £384

Or he can buy Goodyear LS2 all season tyres for £94 each = £376

Now, tell me how this is counter productive?

The first result is a Nankang. I was making the valid point that people should not be tempted to buy super-budget winter/all season tyres because its counter productive.

Obviously I was not referring to Bridgestone and Goodyear as super budget tyres

Ah, right, so because nankang was top of the list I was suggesting those...

they do loads of all seasons.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yeah you can have those back for your obtuse prior posts, especially as my previous post was CLEARLY a Goodyear...

Where did I say you were? Did I even quote you? No.

I saw a link to more all season tyres, spotted the cheapest by a margin was a Nangkang and made a generic comment as a result.

Get over it.

Do you want me to call you a waaaaaaaaaaaaaambulance?

Surprise a thread in motors turns into a debate about peoples posts / posting style rather than the ops intended topic. (not directed at anybody in particular)

I also have an interest in a "all season tyre" as I am looking for tyres for the wifes CMax at the moment.
From what I have read so far though It seems Fox is right in saying an "All Season Tyre" is probably a waste of time as it will be a compromise in all situations.
A good so called "summer tyre" eg Conti Sport Contact 2 will also provide good performance in wet conditions and acceptable performance in cold icy conditions with an adjusted driving style. Snow on the other hand is where probably most tyres will struggle but really how much snow do we get, enough to make it influence your choice of tyre ? well not for me.
Myself I think a good Premium summer tyre is the way forward

Hi there

Well all OK now. :)

Got a pair of Uniroyal MS 55 Winters for the rear with 4mm-5mm - £31 :D
Also a pair of Dunlop Sport 3D Winters for the front with 5mm - £60.

This time I've avoided puncture repaired tyres. So 4 winter tyres all round for sub £100, happy days shall get me through winter and any snow should we have it and then I can either leave on until worn out or buy a set of Summers for summer and just switch between the seasons. :)

Good going.

Part worn from local tyre fitter or online?

Think I'd have put the Dunlop's on the rear though.

Ebay from tyre fitters.

From previous experience I avoided puncture repaired tyres. As the repair is done to a good enough standard but you have no idea as to how long the tyre was driven on under-pressured/flat. Which obviously comprimises the structual integrity of the tyre wall.

Reason I am going with Dunlops on front is they are a sportier winter tyre with stiffer sidewalls, so much better on the steering, turn-in, feedback etc. :)

But I did at first think the marginally deeper tread would be better suited on the rear as it is a RWD vehicle.

I would've gone with the better tread on the rear tbh.

Yep agreed in principle.

But the Uniroyal MS 55 winters have rather soft sidewalls, they are the correct rating for my car (95H) but would make the front end feel like driving on sponges, though great for comfort.

Hence why I am going to see how things go with the Dunlops on front as they are Sport 3D's and definetely have stiffer sidewalls.

Fact is I've gone from:-

1x Illegal Bridgestone on the rear.
1x 4mm never heard off on the rear.
2x Firestone or Firehawk 3mm on the front.

So big improvement all round and should it snow I won't be getting stuck. :)

Sounds fine then, and TBH, you aren't one of those muppets who could not correct any slide anyway.

PMKeates, I think he means the Load Index is correct, speed rating is ignorable on winter tyres, as doing 130 would be insane.
