Hi there, was just thinking about overclocking my graphics card to get some more juice out of it as everyone seems to do this these days. Would you recommend just using AMD overdrive or MSI afterburner?

I've watched youtube videos on both and not sure which is the best. I'd also be happy if you could advise me which values to set it at as I dont want to over-do it and fry my card?

I'd be happy with even the smallest of overclocks.

This is a video I watched:

He mentioned that we should leave core voltage alone and just change the core clock and memory clock, but he didnt mention anything about the shader clock, would it be worth putting that up too?

Thanks in advance.

I've got an Asus HD 5770, and mines at 1.2v/950/1220. Although people say your are safe up to 1.3V, I prefer to stick between 1.15-1.25v. I wouldn't really bother with a memory overclock if I were you.

Just use Furmark and slowly increase the core clock until it's unstable, then up the volts. The 5770 is a good overclocking card, just hope you were lucky and got a good one :P

Also, yeah, I prefer Afterburner.

Edit: ATi/AMD cards don't have shader clocks...

i prefer afterburner, easy to use and you can increase voltage, loads of monitoring, just be careful when you increase voltage

Well I did what that guy said in that youtube video I linked above and just changed core clock and memory clock and these are the values I tried:

core clock = 900mhz
memory clock = 1350mhz

And then I tried a game and I noticed slight flickering on the screen within the first 5 seconds of launching a game but then it went away, so didnt seem stable to me.

I've already started to think this is a waste of time and probably wont work out well for me. I don't have watercooling or anything so maybe I just shouldn't bother.

It's not a waste of time. I think the main problem with that overclock is the memory, I try not to change mine so I always know that it's the core that's stable/unstable. Try 900mhz core and default (1200mhz) memory.
