Which current NVidia Card has roughly same performance as ATI 3870 ?

6850 installed, and Linux 11.10 x64 LiveCD booted right up. Result !!!! And extra windows gaming performance too of course, not that my older games need it too much. But the new Need For Speed is potentially on my shopping list, and there the 6850 is going to be a zillion times bettter than the 3870. Thanks to everyone for their help on this.

Yea...glad it worked out for you in linux (hope it wouldn't be a case of spoken too soon). 6850 is a decent card that doesn't consume too much power gaming graphic card wise.

Auto fan control on the generic cheap OCUK card isn't great, it is now the noisiest thing in my system. AMD control panel shows fan at 40% at the windows desktop. I put it on manual, slowed down to 30%, and now I'm happy again :D. Temps still low. As long as I remember to switch it back to auto when I load a game ;)

MSI Afterburner and its customisable fanspeed control profile would be your best friend (but not sure if it works for Linux though).

Thanks, yes I just did a google search and saw that !

Under Linux I'll have to live with it as it is no doubt, but that's OK. 95% of the time I am in windows
