Hi looking for a PC war game instead of battlefield 3 due to the origin issues . Iv never heard of arma 2 . Can anyone say its worth a download as there is an offer right now . Is it comparable graphic and game play wise to current offerings ? is multiplayer an empty desert now ? Any other recommendations for xmas games list in the FPS or war stratergy apart from MW3 ? any help please ?

Funny you mentioned Arma 2. I checked it out the other night on youtube. It seems to be more of a proper sim and it is multiplayer. My opinion: graphics look dated and dull and gameplay seems slow and laborious.

Arma 2 is a proper simulator...well "war" simulator. You cant just rush in, you gotta think, look around and be stealthy most of the time. If you just run across the road more than likely your head will be the only part that reaches the other side.

In my opinion, i picked it up for £3 on steam sale once. I enjoyed it for a while. It is very slow paced! Worth it if your pc can handle the game.

Arma 2 is great but it's not a bf game or cod in any way.
It is slow but get with a good team and the mp is like nothing else.

And for merlin5s flippant 'I watched YouTube vids and judged the game' remarks the game is not dated graphically, the landscapes and animations are secoNd to none and actually impact the game unlike say bf3.

You need patience for the game, if you don't have any don't get it.

Yeah just been looking at different youtube vids on it , Hard to really get an accurate representation of graphical quality , but it does seem consistently PS2 quality , though the game play and still seems more to think about . But most importantly if no one is left and has moved on from multiplayer then it just has to die , Am I going to be the only person running around those huge battlefields ?

I bought it for around £3 too but I've never really gotten into it. It's fairly tedious and dare I say it, difficult.

But I'd imagine if you spend many hours figuring out how to play properly then you may enjoy it but I've only put about 2 hours into it and got really frustrated.

If you want a FPS like BF3 then Arma is not what you looking for.
It is slow paced & one shot kills unlike most other FPS where you can get hit 6-10 times before die.
It is a very good game/sim graphics look fine to me I have just been playing today, but if you want to play it at max settings you need a good PC.

Thanks iamtheoneo its going for £7 or plus operation arrowhead ,British armed forces, private military company,Gold edition and cold war assult for £20 Is it worth all the extras . but is there anyone to play with is what im worried about . the rest matters little if there no one out there ? cheers

It's one of the best games I've ever owned, the graphics aren't outdated at all, very good looking game. It doesn't take that long to get used to the buttons either. Definitely worth the buy.

Garsands . Thanks got a i5 2.7 ghz with an 560ti 2gb graphics , Yeah they game play sounds great , Ild prefer to spend time getting a good position and make that shot rather than run around getting shot from all angles in Battlefield and COD . think there just as much satisfaction .

I'm a fan of Arma, it's definitely a slower pace to other fps but that's the appeal for me.

Grab Arma 2 and OA no need for the others really also you can check out a mod for this game called Project Reality.

I still have it install but I recently tried to play it and suffered from the having more than 4gbs of ram bug, and the only way to fix it that I could find was to disable the extra 4gb on the system  , which obviously wasn't gonna happen. Hopefully there is a fix out there, but too tied up with others games at the moment.

cheers Pooley and garsands , im just looking at something on youtube a load of guys on a ridiculous batttlebus it seems fun . So Pooley , the first Arma 2 and OA will give me all I need , that only £12 on steam worth a punt at that price .

Yeah bud get Arma2 and OA they are the two main games.

Make sure though you install them together to make Arma2 Combined Operations as they use all the maps when you play online, check out the steam forum to help you do this.
