Hard Drive Pricing going up at an alarming rate!!!!

shhh im going there right now to try and get some hard drives so please STFU untill i get at least 10 for myself :p

but on topic these prices cannot last as people wont pay these sort of prices given how much we know that the retailers have plenty in stock to cover this short term plundge in production, its all part of business tactics, every other sector does the same ...

just got a 1TB from a high street retailer for £64.99 and they selling 2TB for £106.99

They have i been told quite a lot in stock, as well as being told gist wise...

"Between you and me this hard drive price increase is purely down to marketing, if i were you id buy the ones we have in stock now, then wait untill next year before buying any other specific ones, as these prices arent going to last given how much stock is about"

from the geek guy today..interesting.

Looking at HD prices over the last week, they seem to be going down again a little. So I still think the original panic was scaremongering.

yer well tell me when you find in reality a place which sells them for that price and not fairy land

I've just spent 2 minutes doing a search and high street retailer beginning with 'C' is selling an external 2TB HD for £80. Of course, you would need to extract the hd, but it can be used internally...if you wish. That's what I did.

I'm pretty sure if spend 30 minutes searching, I can come up with more offers, but you get the idea.

I ordered a 2tb seagate external drive from a large online store last friday for £79.99, it arrived on tuesday, i also saw 2tb western digital green internal drives for just over £80 today but didn't order one as i'll be able to get one a lot cheaper by the time i need it.

It's only available to collect instore and i get the message

Sorry! This item is not in stock at any of our stores near you. Please try another postcode or select home delivery if possible.

I'd say there won't be too many about knowing how this group operate.

Like i said in reality theres a big difference between what really happens and what happens in fairy land

Also external hard drives changing to internal have their own issues one being void warrenty on most part........

Also having in stock is another issue, i found 100s of £30 hard drives sure, but how many have stock...0...

So is this geek guy saying the prices will go down again once this stock runs out ... otherwise it doesn't make sense if he says it is just marketing.

Cheapest 2TB FreeAgent drive I can find that's actually in stock is £89.99, Is it worth going to the High Street retailer that sells them for £79.99 and says "Sorry! This item is not in stock at any of our stores near you. Please try another postcode or select home delivery if possible" on the off chance they actually might have them in stock?

SEAGATE FreeAgent GoFlex Desk External Hard Drive - 2TB found at £79.99 (£20 off) in Nottingham showing as available to collect in one out of two of the same retail stores.

Only problem with that is there's no direct parking so can't just nip in and buy, you would have to pay parking and by the time you've finished faffing about you may as well pay £10 more and buy the same drive from that big electonic component store that's more like a toy shop these days! for the same drive.
