*****Official Star Wars: The Old Republic Thread*****

I generally get the feeling bioware is holding back certain things in these testing weekends and it's more about server reliability and story follow through.

I do worry that you can get past the first 6 levels or so by "running past" enemy's and its not very clear that you need to do "side quests" to level up to be able to progress past level 6 or so.

I did feel the graphics were not as good as they could be.

Loving it, for the first time I am actually following a story in an MMO as I don't have to read walls of text. Combat is fun, looking forward to rolling my Empire main. Art direction is brilliant, being a 3D artist I really appreciate the effort that has gone into this. Feels extremely solid although Coruscant is doing my head in as its so closed in.

My main problems are every race is more or less a human and everyone looks the same. These two are really killing it for me and I really miss the varied looks of SW Galaxies, I wish they had put more into this area.

I will be picking it up and enjoying the full game on release.

/Edit. People bashing and saying the same old thing over and over. It's an MMO, no investor is going to risk trying to re invent the wheel as we have seen with some MMOs trying to be totally different have totally failed as an investment. You must remember how much money has gone into this and what returns they want. Wanting to go up against WoW and survive the market? Of course your going to go with the current strong model and build on it. What were you expecting??

Development always have their hands tied.

Man, when you have played a mmo that has done it all and repeated that crap with expansions over and over again with questing. Then you will understand how i feel.

Since vanilla wow, levelling in mmo's has always been a big grind, it shouldn't feel like that at all.

I played WoW from 3 months prior to its launch until January this year.

SWTOR is completely different to WoW and vastly better.

Getting to level 5 and then saying its exactly the same just goes to show the type of gamer you and the rest in this thread actually are.

I think some people need to calm down a bit with the drama :D , soon as anything negative is posted the same people keep jumping on them, let people post their opinions :p

People can post there opinions, that's fine. But saying "I got to level 4 and the game is crap" is hardly a valid opinion.

Like a few others mentioned and like my post, Swtor is a good game but disappointing for people wanting something new and different. For me, simply having a good story, voice, etc wont be able to hold my attention when the game feels too single playerish with a monthly fee when games like Skyrim etc with plenty of story are out. The game play just feels mundane and you tend to strive for the next cut scene.

I also thought the companion system was very disappointing for a Bioware game and something they need to fix. You can activate 1 or 2 skills in a fight and it does it the rest itself, you can send him off to do materials etc but in the end just a mindless story drone. would have thought Bioware would have put a lot more into them with more skill selects in combat, it would spice things up a lot more and take some of the bore out of combat.

See this is a valid opinion, but you haven't told us for example what level you have got to?

Any one else finding it hard to keep playing the beta? I mean I have started a character that I want to start in retail and don't want to spoil the story for myself :p

Also if us who have pre ordered are lucky we could be playing retail in just under 3 weeks right?

So Far - Love the graphics style - but shadows are messed up atm

Gameplay - not so sure - quests are definitely as generic as they come - combat is fun though I can see it getting repetitive unless it does change though higher levels.

Overall - I can't really see it dragging me away from my current MMO of choice (LoTRO) as I play for the atmosphere and the TOR world just doesn't compare imho

The only worrying thing for me so far is how easy it all is. I've only gotten to 11 with a smuggler, but I've been blowing through the content on autopilot, haven't even come close to dying - I think I've used a medpack twice in all that time. Once I got the first companion it just got silly.

Hopefully they're just going easy on you because it's the starter planet. No challenge = bored.

Yeah, but do you not think that the fact that so many people latch onto this means they're dying for something new and original? It's a terribly pity to see developers forced into churning out identikit mmos because investors are too scared to let them do anything else.

Be interesting to see how GW2 does in this regard, big scary mmo experiment :D

So, after 8 hours Play and being up to 2am (feel like crap now) here are my thoughts;

Pro:

• Quests - Never been so engaged by mmo questing. It may have a lot to do with voice acting but I find them more interesting and picking up bonus quests as you go everything seems to flow rather than see generic questgiver and go.
• Voice acting - amazing! Such a simple step for an mmo but it engages you so well, first time I have followed an mmo story.
• Graphics - they are good enough for an mmo, much more polished than most and do a job.
• Companions - Fun and interesting addition! Good to fight and be able to improve them as well.

Cons

• Companions - Yes I said they were a plus but on the flip side they follow you like a brain dead dog staring at you constantly. Plus EVERYONE has the sane companion, a bit of variance would not have hurt as it looks stupid in cities.
• Gear - Everyone looks the same :( this was a massive disappointment for me even allowing some basic gear colour changes or something because it looks stupid.
• UI - Fugly, horrible and intrusive. Sort it!!!!!!

Overall I like it, certainly will be playing on release and can see myself enjoying it a lot. I just think for all the money they have spent on making the game there are some basic/lazy mistakes which have been made which could improve the game with little to no effort.

I thought that and then i dismissed my companion and played solo till about level 15+ then the mobs become a little harder.

Liking the PvP however it is a lot more team based I found than other MMOs, and with such a variation in the MMO community you can have some good teams leading to close matches and some terrible teams leading to thrashings.

Most people seem to be drawn to the center of maps to fight it out rather than going for the objectives. As shown in one Voidstar game where the enemy team got through all the points in about 4 mins and we didn't even get past the first door and one Huttball game where we lost 6-0(They were 3-0 after 2 mins...).

Overall I'm finding it fun and definitely going to roll BH on release.

Has anyone else played as an android? The animation for cut scenes don't seem to be able to handle the android "implants" stuck on my characters face. They literally pop in and out of existence. It looks ridiculous, and I would say unprofessional. I am surprised to see glitches like this so close to release.

Don't get you hopes to high for GW2 it basically be the same type of quests but with a different skin and slight different packaging.

I think the voice acting makes a big difference to the game. I found myself thinking more about the story line when just what I have to go out and kill/collect.

Overall I'm finding it fun and definitely going to roll BH on release.

Yeah I've found the none force chars much better then expected. The BH/IA story line seems better then the Smuggler/Trooper. BH get Mako as a companion, a real plus :D

Has anyone else played as an android?

Isn't everyone human? Seems like like. The other races a bit er scary looking!

Everything passes through my twi'leks had tail things, really annoying and poor animations. Seen that in loads of games I.e. the human form is solid the "additions" are poorly tagged on.

Really!? You have got to level 4 and think its a good reflection of what the game has to offer?

You probably have around 4-6 skills, 2 of them probably being a buff.

You wouldn't have even hit serious grouping, instances, crafting and companions. To name a few.

Really does blow my mind at times how people are so quick to judge.

That was supposed to read "haven't got far enough to pass judgement"!

not really looking to do much more now, just wanted to get a feel for the interface and to see if i enjoyed the combat/animations/flow, any more play would likely just ruin plot points, and I've always found if I over-do a beta i end up hating the game for that reason.

Must say though korriban feels like a much quicker/smoother leveling planet than tython as everything seems much closer reducing travel time between quests. Where as tython requires a lot of quick travel abuse. Which works well for me as its either SW or SI for me, probably SW. I still have reservations about the amount of high end armour that seems to be vader/malek inspired.
