Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz OEM or Retail?

This week you can pick up an OEM 2500k for £155.99.

It is worth buying this or still going for the Retail version?

I know the Retail has 3 year warranty and the OEM only have 1 year but I'm thinking that in a years time you will be able to pick these bad boys up for next to nothing.

What are your thoughts?

Retail 3y warranty £179.99

Processors rarely become faulty, Retail has a heatsink.

Yer I know about the heatsink but im not going to be using the retail one, would just end up selling it... don't think i'd make the difference of £25 from the fan...

Like you said, very rarely do CPU's go faulty (in my experience) and if anything does in 2 years its probably time for an upgrade anyway.

If you are not worried about the length of warranty and the stock heatsink isn't worth the extra £24 then you want the OEM version. It's the same processor, it's only the extras (box, heatsink, extra warranty) that make it the more expensive retail version.

Been pushing so much voltage through my E8400 and I7 920 for the last several years, and no they wont become faulty for many years of abuse (as long as you dont overdo it).

Just use some common sense, dont go over 1.4v without proper water pumps, and try to your max temps around 15 degrees under the TJ max and it will work for a decade or two.
