So it's just been suggested that our office may shut down over christmas, something I didn't want as I assume I will lose three days of holiday. It got me thinking about going away on boxing day for a few days instead.

Unfortunately I don't really have anyone to go with this time or in the future (friends all seem to be married and the other half thing is complicated) so was thinking about trying a "singles" holiday instead. Better than wondering around for a few days on your own..

Anyone been on one? Any good? Especially more adventurous ones. Recommendations?

Thanks.

Wow, that website is bloomin expensive and everyone in the websites pictures seems to be over 60...!

Thanks anyway, I'll have another look at that website (not prague specifically, already been this year).

I'll have a look into that as well, may be more my age group! That is one of the things I was wondering about, I think I'd rather travel on my own than spend the time with a bunch of OAPs (sorry if that sounds harsh but...)

Book a flight and a hostel and you'll have a great time and will meet loads of people. It doesn't matter if you arrive on your own as you will meet loads of people and spend the time with them.

A married couple in their forties were celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary. They were approached by a fairy who granted them a wish each for being such an exemplary couple. The wife wanted to travel the world with her dear husband, and with a wave of the wand two tickets for the QE2 appeared. The husband thought for a moment and said that although it sounded bad, he wished for a wife 20 years younger than himself. So, with a wave of the wand, the fairy turned him into an old age pensioner.

1st O.A.P. :- “I still enjoy great sex at 67“

2nd O.A.P. :- “Yeah“

1st O.A.P. :- “Which is handy, because I live at no. 65

Problem is I'm not a fan of city breaks, after the first day I've seen most of the best sights and am now stuck for things to do... Much rather be zooming around doing interesting stuff, that's where the hostel idea normally falls down, it is something I'm contemplating though, although I've had bad experiences with hostels in the past (specifically people being ****** and noisy all night and then couples having sex opposite you...)*

*Makes me sound like a right loner but I'd rather stay out til midnight having a few fun filled drinks than getting smashed all night then not doing anything the next day... If I wanted to do the latter I'd stay at home.:p

I went to Andora for a week with the adventure company. We were all solo travellers, in fact 25% of us there had recently become single and wanted to see somewhere else!

Any idea of the company? :)

Something like Neilson's solo holidays any good? It wasn't the company I was originally thinking of but for a ski/snowboard holiday it seems ok.

Possibly, I like Neilsons so that's a good shout.

Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, etc.

For a week? That area doesn't appeal to me much tbh, not really a Gap Yeah! person...

You could look at Solos

Bit worrying their age group doesn't have any option below 30 tho! Looks a bit more young person than the just you site tho'. :)

Have you used them?

I've been thinking since I made this thread about going to a US city now, Boston last year was pretty nice and the fact they speak english means socialising is a bit easier outside of a hostel. I'm tempted by Boston again but would prefer to broaden my horizons, NY doesn't really appeal so maybe Washington? What's that like? Any other suggestions for interesting (history, lively etc) but reasonably cheap places to go for a 4-7 days, especially US/Canadian cities?

I don't know about cheap but San Francisco and Vancouver are both entertaining and lively cities that might be worth investigating to see if they've got any suitable offers. I would have thought that 4 days would be a bit on the short side as a trip considering how long it takes to get out there but if that's the holiday time you've got available then that can't be helped.

I've done 4 days to the states before... sort of... flew out thursday after work, arrived back 8am tuesday... managed about half a days work then slept 16 hours straight up completely dead to the world :S

What about an activity holiday for a certain age group in the UK? I used to go with the RNIB with the 12-16 and 16-20 age groups. Did all sorts of stuff. Outdoor pursuits weeks, music weeks, IT, nights out bowling, fairground and clubbing/bars for those nearer to age 20. Sadly I got past 20 and couldn't find anything else that's similar. It doesn't have to be RNIB. Just an activity week for singles by age group, so perhaps 25-34 age for me?
