SLI GTX 570's vs 1 x GTX 580 3G

Hey there...

I've got a 30" monitor and run a single GTX 580 1.5G on it @ 2560 x 1600, and it just isn't quick enough in BF3. :)

I've been thinking that I wanted to wait for the AMD 7000/ nVidia Kepler 28nm boards to come out, but it appears that the performance models aren't due until mid year next year at least, and on the basis of that I'm just thinking that it's a bit too long to wait for something that has enough VRAM and GPU grunt to run 2560 x 1600 @ 60fps with all settings on Ultra on BF3.

As such, am considering SLI GTX 570's with 2.5G VRAM each - is this something that will give me my expected performance above, or will 2 x GTX 580's only really give me that? Is a 590/6990 still a feasible solution at this point?

Muchos gracias etc :)

At that res, to run everthing maxed out, 1 580 alone, even 3GB, wont have the raw power to deliver your performance, you'd need two.

It's like a people carrier. It's got a lot of room to store stuff, but it's not gonna get you from the lights first.

...but you think at 2560 x 1600 everything on Ultra that's still going to do OK? I'm a little unsure...

well the Vram will be okay as once you ditch windows areo it frees up a lot of vram and iam happly running at 2560x1440 @ ultra no AA though and getting 60-80 fps but that is with 3 overclocked 470's .....

My advice get as much GPU horse power as you can and get a second 580

In BF3 it is yes.

I tried 4xMSAA and lowest fps was 45, but I see no visual difference between 2x and 4x anyway, fxaa does a better job anyway with terms of performance on bf3.
