Ok in the cpu section i was asking about q6600's to help speed up a friends current pc for photo editing.

But after some looking around i thought i would be more Beneficial to maybe get this, what do you think?

What changes would you make?

i was thinking of getting him the cpu/cooler/ram but this is only slightly more expensive!

well firstly out with the psu
secondly the cpu is not a k cpu so you can't overclock it so no need for the £33 cooler.
if you want to over clock you want the i2500k, i2600k or i2700k photoshop will benefit from the hyperthreading in the i2600k/i2700k tho those are more expensive.

damn it stulid :(

The PSU is a NO NO, never skimp on PSU quality otherwise it may come back to haunt you.

This is the minimum PSU for that - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-059-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1084

What case do you have? need to check the height of the cooler.

Is the Z68 board for future proofing?

no its not for future proofing, do you think a different board will be better?

as for the psu, taken on board and changed ;)

no overclocking so you think stock cooler?

I think a H61 or H67 board will do, maybe then upgrade to a i5 2300?

And just use the stock cooler, a big one like the A70 may not fit your case!!

How are you hoping to connect the motherboard to your screen? what cable are you wanting to use?

Theres a test here of the i3 2120 which also includes a i5 2300 - http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i3-2120-2100.html

Also the i5 is a true quad core and not a dual core+hyperthreading like the i3 is.

And I think you got your Turbo speed mixed up a bit.

Only the 2500 with a clock speed of 3.3GHz will reach 3.7Ghz with a single core under load, and then it drops down to 3.6,3.5,3.4 as the other cores are used.

Basically Turbo boost is always 4 speed bins faster, so for the i5 2300 at 2.8GHz it will be 3.2Ghz, but in reality it will be 2.9Ghz as you will be using more than a single core at any time.

If it dont make sense I can find a simpler explanation.

Indeed,

A good PSU is safer to use with voltage/current protection.
More efficient so uses less power from a wall socket.
Can actually deliver the wattage on its label.
