Autism, Aspergers, Dyspraxia etc

The last part is called "hyperbole"; look it up. A rather droll attempt at humour, I'll admit, but it's my usual style and I can't help it.

I don't wish to get into an argument here, as all too often on this forum "one upmanship" just continues until everything ultimately devolves into a "No, you!"-fest.

Fair point on the subset terminology, though I figured most would garner that from reading what I was saying. It would appear not. To say a Salmon is a fish is correct. To say all fish are Salmon is incorrect. That's not difficult to ascertain.

Similarly, with Autism, the blanket term "Autism" includes Aspergers Syndrome. The two aren't entirely different afflictions, which is my original point before the road to one-upmanship-ville began.

It wasn't one-upmanship what you said was wrong.

It wasn't one-upmanship what you said was wrong.

So saying that "Autism" includes Aspergers Syndrome is wrong? I don't understand anymore. I've already accepted your point of referring to subsets, and clarified the position.

The one-upmanship begins with "you don't know what you're talking about, so it is of no consequence to me" (to paraphrase). That's attempting to take an intellectual high ground, which leads to further arguments of "you don't know the second thing about me, or what I'm studied in" etc. etc. Until someone's handbag gets broken.

Bro-hug, dude. It's the only way.

I do hope the irony of being obsessive with the details in a thread like this isn't lost on everyone :p

:D Well I did say I would fail the test miserably. But fortunately I feel no need to get a diagnosis doing just fine thanks.

No intellectual high ground needed or desired as the facts are quite simple - Aspergers falls into the ASD group - they are not "the same" as you stated.

Compboyo has Aspergers... :o

Slate me all I like I haev a meeting in a few weeks for official diagonis.

And as for OP I was genuis in physics and maths. Won many awards at school and 95-100% grades at university. Always top of class.

Good at music and art to. Not so good at walking down the street, going into shops, making conversation and general ''normal'' things.

oh wow that bupa website seems to say the oposite of that fus guy .

theres a good reaosn to get diagnosed aswell even though FUS was saying its pointless as an adult

I most certainly didn't say that.

Now it seems like you're trying to find reasons to convince us of your difficulties. I wish you all the success in the world, and I hope that the outcome of your assessment (be it a diagnosis or otherwise) brings you all that you wish it to.

Just as an aside - why do you think that BUPA (a private, fee paying service) would support assessment and dianosis of adults with Autism?

I lol'd. Then wondered whether I should feel bad.
You should wonder why someone in a mod position is makin fun of autistic people.
There is obviously nothing stopping me from typing up posts with the correct grammar I just cant be arsed.

would you expect an employee anywhere else to openly make fun of people with mental health problems? or would you expect them to set an example and enforce the forum rules

its a borderline personal insult from a mod......

You expect people to be 'arsed' to engage you in constructive debate in threads about current affairs? How much effort is holding down shift at the start of a sentence anyway?

Why Include dyspraxia on this Thread?

Since well someone can be diagnosed with both of them.

Also it is just not about being clumsy...

it can also affect the following...

a limited ability to concentrate
difficulty in picking up small objects especially in younger children
not being able to complete jigsaws or to sort games out properly
difficulty in holding a pencil or handwriting
difficulty in understanding prepositions such as 'in', 'on' or 'behind'
inability to sort out shapes or toys effectively
difficulty with throwing and catching games
inability to follow sequential instructions
difficulty in dressing or tying shoelaces
difficulty in using a knife and fork
confusion and changing between use of their right and left hand
inability to recognise danger
tiring easily
general irritability or limited social skills
poor posture and spatial awareness
inappropriate verbal responses.

Some of these do overlap with ASD anyway....

I have several of the above so apparently I'm dyspraxic, a mate suggested it a year or so a go. Go me!

Anyway,
my brother has autism,
One of my best mates has aspergers
Housemate is dyslexic (didn't stop him from getting 4 A's at A-Level though, its not an excuse for being dumb!)

I know a fair few other people with various forms of the austic spectrum as well. One of my mates has a brother with a more severe form of austism than my bro, and one of my best mates through school was quite badly dyslexic. So I know a decent amount about the conditions.

Autistic people tend to have something they are really good at. For my brother it was Maths, I was always top in school at maths myself, but he was always better than me until A-levels despite being a year and a half younger. If he didn't have so many problems in secondary school I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if he could be my degree level maths better than me now.
