** OFFICIAL Football Manager 2012 Thread **

15 games in with River plate and I have 15 wins, it is easy and boring so I now need to find a new team.

Malteser do you switch all the other leagues on in may for new jobs or leave them running or what?

Leave them running. makes it better imo. Got all 10 leagues running, when I dominate those, I'll add Belgium + Russia.

Reached FA Cup Final and Champions League Final. Fa Cup ill face Man City, Champions league it will be R.Madrid

Looks like however ill finish 4th this year drawn far too many games in the PL :(

2016/2017 (I think):

After finishing in 3rd in the EPL with Brentford the season before, I "pushed on". Kept faith with a couple of regens I'd bought and played the season before, but hadn't performed too well, and they duly delivered. Won the EPl, FA Cup and CL. EPL was doing fine, but had a slight bumpy road in and the last 8 matxhes were a bit hit and miss - won the league by a single point. CL final beat Barcelona and FA Cup beat Arsenal (played on a Wednesday night!).

Mt team consisted almost entirely of regens, and I suppose the amount of time I invest in the close-season really paid off. Once I'd won the league, I'd had 5-6 Wonderkids in the team during the season. Got to say that this campaign has been one of my most successful whilst playing FM/Old CM. Quite happy as I didn't pay a transfer fee until my third season (second season in the Championship). Still annoyed at the lack of good English regens (there's only 1 or 2 in the top 100 regens within the game).

2017/2018 and 2018/2019: Where to go from here? Although finding the excellent regens is a lot of fun, I didn't really feel like there was much more to achieve, so I quit Brentford (as a Legend! :D), and spent a season out of the game - turned down England, Man Utd and Man City.

I assumed the role as Manager of Chelmsford City in the Blue Square Premiership!

£500,000 in debt (which is actually a pretty worrying level for a tiny club - so I'm hoping for a bit of a cup run!) with no transfer budget and a £7,000 per week salary budget.

I started getting rid of the dead wood - think I've only got two or three players remaining, and started my personal scouting mission. This involved hours of trawling through almost every league around (from Bosnia to Brazil), looking at every teams transfer in/out history and youth team transfer's out!

Suffice to say I don't really have a very english team (only 22% I believe), and it's mostly comprised of Bosnians, Croatians, Dutch and Germans - managed to get a couple of decent loanees in, but I'm struggling with the wage issue. I jumped at a couple of players before I had completed looking around all the leagues, so have maxed out my budget with very little cover.

Currently 4th I think after 8 games - Information screen say's I should finish 16th or 18th, can't remember.

Meanwhile, the Brentford team I assembled has been slowly disbanded by Remi Garde. They've kept some of the better players, but let go an awesome regen RB I'd developed (bought for £1m from a Croatian team and sold to Inter for £15m), and also let a brilliant AML go to Barcelona for £7,75m whom I wouldn't have sold for £20m. They finished 2nd in the EPL and lost out to Barcelona in the CL final the season after I left...

Really starting to **** me off how the AI can easily adapt to tactics. The one I used 1st season, I went completely undefeated, won everything! Start of 2nd season and I'm 9 games in, used it in the last 3 games, didn't use it at all during pre-season and it's useless even though everything is fully fluid, I'm just getting merked by the AI.

any tips on finding decent regens ?

Hours of trawling through teams. It's a good idea to have scouts for each area/region to improve your coverage. You can either do a player search with a max age of 20, and then order the search by attribute (ie, attacking attributes listed and ranked by the highest finishing, passing, etc.).

Also, after the first season or two, skimming through the national team's U21's and U19's does a good trick. At the end of each season (normally around the 10th or 20th of June) go and have a look team by team at all the German youth player's that have been released (two of the six wonderkids mentioned above were sourced like this).

You're bound to miss out on a few simply because you can't literally cover everywhere but searching Central and Eastern European leagues tends to produce a couple of gems - frequently african and other countries which might struggle to get work permits.

It really does take a long time to look around, but I'd highly recommend doing a team by team search a month or two into each season (and then listing their squads either by value or age) of the likes of Croatia, Czech Rep, Slovakia, Ivory Coast, Argentina, Brazil, Belgium, Poland, etc.

Depending on your budget you can also have a crack at the Italians, Spanish and French, but they'll likely cost an arm and a leg, however the Italian teams frequently let excellent U21 prospects go on free transfers most seasons (ie. have a look at the Italian U21, U20 and U19 squads mid-season - as you need to allow time for them to be regen'ed and then added to the national squads - and add all of the better or most promising ones to your shortlist).

Started as Blackburn and decided to keep the squad together (Because I was given 0 money!!!) Some how brought in a young kid called Saul by selling back up keeper(and local lad to me) Mark Bunn to Man City(they make some strange signings!)

Pre-season was very uninspiring
M.Tel-Aviv (H) 1-1
Southampton (A) 1-1
Bordeaux (H) 1-0
Maritimo (H) 1-0
Corinthians (H) 1-3
Oxford (A) 0-4
Kidderminster (A) 1-4
Cesena (H) 3-1

Then the season started and I had Arsenal at the Emirates!!! somehow managed a 0-0 with Samba being pretty dangerous to them, lost the usual games (Man City and Liverpool away) but beat Stoke 4-1 AWAY and got very good draws with Spurs and Chelsea, I then lost 3 back to back (united, West Brom and Everton but bounced back spectacularly with a 4-0 drubbing of Wolves and a 5-1 cup win against Spurs, another draw against Arsenal and 4-1 beatings of Newcastle and Fulham took me into the January transfer window.....

January Transfer Window

IN
Christian Ribeiro
Gary Gardner
Alex Smithies
Marco Veratti

7.5 in total(future fees taking most of this)

OUT
Gael Givet
Ruben Rochina

3.3 in straight cash

After the transfer window I had average/expected results but noteable wins against Liverpool and Man City (1-0 both) also into the League Cup Final where I will face Chelsea.

Still 9th but with a game in hand and only 2 points behind 5th placed Arsenal anything is still possible.

Yakubu has 23 goals in 24 starts!!!!
Morten Gamst Pedersen has 15 assists
Junior Hoilett has 6 goals and 8 assists and the same as Simon Vukevic.

Very happy so far.....

Honestly, I cba doing pics and stuff, so I'll just give a title and write a bit. Season has ended a few days ago. Already started the next season and am 8 games in!

Form Hero to Zero!
First up, we will be mentioning the Copa Libertadores, where All Boys had to play the currant Copa Libertadores cup holders Chorinthians. The first game in Argentina ended well, with a great 2-0 win for All Boys, with goals from the centre back pair Basanta and Godoy. Basanta got man of the match, and this is the player who from hero turned to zero. All boys thought they could actually cause an upset and go through, but an off-day for the team saw them crashing out after losing 4-0 in the second leg, all goals coming in the first 45 minutes. Basanta, after playing an amazing first leg, made 2 vital mistakes, giving 2 goals to Corinthians. One of them was failing to deal with a cross well, and the other giving away a penalty when the ball was in All Boy's possession. He got a half time rating of 3.6 and a full time rating of 4.2. Disappointing.

Illusions!
The Copa America was another competition All Boys could have won. The game against Racing was easy, 3-0 and a one way game all through. Colon seemed like an easy game. The players probably went out with too much confidence, and in the 58th minute, Colon took the lead. All Boys clawed one back in the 78th minute, and nobody good score the winner, so it went to penalties. Keeper Borun missed the first penalty for All Bots (14 penalty taking btw) and Mughini missed the last one (Colon). All Boys chocked again by losing the penalty right after with Godoy. A trophy which could have easily be won but lost in a horrible manner.

Best of the lot
Not much to say about the Premier League. After losing to River Plate with a very controversial goal, I dcided to give up, and not sweat it out. Still managed to beat Gimnasia 4-0 and a few other teams. Finished second, a few points behind River, but I'm pleased :D

Well Blackburn finished the season in 7th place after a few disappointing draws but we did better than our mid-table expectance also won the league cup against Chelsea in extra time 6-3 (2-2 at full time!!)

Yakubu finished the season with 32 goals (22 premiership)
Morten Gamst Pedersen had 21 assists and led the league in assists(despite me playing him all accross the midfield and at left back more than once!)

Verratti, Saul, Gardner, Hanley all got a decent amount of games which should see them progress and replace the likes of Dunn and Nelson.

Chris Samba is now 28 and I could get 20 million cash for him and I was given 20 million to strengthen so do I sell him and if so who do I replace him with?

What signings would you make with 40 million (every area could use some strengthening, this is still Blackburn even with me at the helm!)

Looking to sign a few Man City rejects on the cheap as experience to my youth I am bringing through, Bridge, Barry, De Jong, Zabs.

Also I had all of my coaches poached from March to May, not 1 or 2 but 7!!!

As soon as I get a decent coach I always put them on long term contracts. That way, even if they get poached I at least get some reasonable compensation for them.

So annoying when you get a good coach for a skill area where they are thin on the ground and then get poached on the cheap because I forgot to keep on top of there contracts.

Still unsure if i should take the Man Utd offer or stick with Spurs in my 3rd season as manager.
