US TV shows

After all the talk about people downloading TV shows not aired in the UK and discussing them in various threads, such as the Dexter and The Walking Dead and the legalities of this isn't it about time to pull the plug on these threads once and for all and stop talking about them.

I hold my hands up, I do download and watch them (pretty much like everyone else does in here or elsewhere) but I only read the threads and not post. I think I posted early on in the Dexter thread but left it at that and didn't carry on posting anything else.

I like these forums and the fact they are moderated in a professional manner albeit sometimes very harshly buts that's another matter. I just don't want to see people getting needlessly banned or suspended because they can't wait to talk about something once its been shown here in the UK. The current thread on The Walking Dead is not so bad as I think we are only a week behind the US but the Dexter (even Community I believe, not sure if it's on in the UK yet) have not even been shown here yet, I think Season 5 of Dexter has not long finished on FX itself. Yet there is a lot of talk about episodes of the current season.

I propose that if anyone feels they need to talk about or start a thread on a TV show that's been aired in the UK they should title it in some way so only current or past UK broadcast discussion is allowed.

eg:

Dexter Season 1-4
Dexter Season 5
Dexter Season 6 Predictions etc. (Just an idea)

Moderators then can keep a closer eye on threads and delete posts and or threads discussing non UK aired TV shows.

Alternatively just close/lock/delete any thread that contains ANY discussion of unaired TV shows whatsoever. After getting lots of threads deleted I think forums members will get the idea that discussion is not tolerated unless its been broadcast here in the UK.

I would rather have no threads at all than ones that I can only look at without the risk of getting suspended or banned for opening my mouth a few months too early.

I just briefly mentioned in The Walking Dead thread that mods only seem to jump on re-inforcing the "aired in the uk" discussion rule when it directly affects something they are watching. They basically let the rest of it slide by.

I only spend maybe 30mins to an hour a day on these forums and I can immediately see which threads are breaking the "aired in the uk" rule, surely a mod who would be spending more time than this on these forums should have a closer eye on what is/isn't breaking the rules.

Funny you mention posting in the Walking Dead thread. I just saw it after I submitted this thread. Its true what you say.

I think they should completely ban ALL talk of unaired TV.

Or maybe allow it in a separate thread?

I know of a well known company whose forum this is allowed on and they would have much more to lose than this place.

Surely as long as we don't say how we got hold of the episode and just stick to talking about the episode itself nobody can complain.

Although say that, this will no doubt be "discussed" and thus decided that no talk at all as always :(

To play devils advocate a little, I followed the rules for quite a while. However over the last couple of months, I noticed no one really enforcing them so I myself have also talked about unaired TV shows, more so than anything just to see if I get called up on, so far...nothing!

Of course all talk about shows un-aired in the UK should be banned/moderated, just like talking about getting/playing games early in the console section (unless photo proof is provided that you have a legit copy of the game) is not allowed.

It annoys me (not the fact people do it, I can live with that) but it seems the people that do it are unable to comprehend the fact I do not want to read about "my cousin in the US tells me it's a great episode. ;)"

It's like they think they are cool doing it, The Walking Dead is one week behined the US for airing the episodes, it has been requested by me several times in that thread people wait until the UK air date to discuss, it yet people don't and on the Monday people are posting about watching the US episode. I don't care, just wait until the Friday when people in the UK have watched it to discuss it.

I could easily download the episode myself if I so wanted, it's not like it would be hard to find, but if I did, I would keep quiet and just discuss it when the rest of the UK has had the option to watch it.

In my view, they either put a blanket ban on stuff like this, or they go the other way and allow discussions on this and everything piracy related!

Surely as long as we don't say how we got hold of the episode and just stick to talking about the episode itself nobody can complain.

But it is obvious, just like it is obvious that people posting saying how great X game is weeks before release date, but hours after it leeks on torrent sites, how they have got it, and that discussion is not allowed period.

Well I think it sucks as I can't talk about shows despite watching them on TV lol :p *points at location

Its the Overclockers forums and their rules but please enforce them properly or not at all mods. Everyone knows how to get TV Shows and we all know we should not talk about them so it should be a total ban on ALL discussion on unaired TV unless you allow discussion to carry on maybe like what Wossi said, have a separate thread for unaired discussion.

How bad does it actually look on OcUK having these sort of threads? Lawsuits?

Some one mentioned that some people who watch it by downloading act as though its big and clever to see it before its over here, granted some people do act childish but the majority do not. I look forward to Mondays only because I can set up my own TV schedule for the day instead of having to flick through the rubbish that is on UK TV.

What with all the TV I have on my PC I bet I can make an awesome weekly schedule based on 5 evenings with 5 hours viewing time.

I think the Mods should give us a direct and closed answer to all this TV nonsense.

Yay or Nay?

The only reason I am vehemently for moderation is it is the reason the original Walking Dead thread got closed down when season 1 was on.

If the mods now decide it is allowed, but people who download the shows and wish to discuss them should now have to use the spoiler tags that have been implemented.

Maybe they also have (like I have seen on other forums) designate in the thread title if they are tracking the US or UK episode schedule, although I know which thread would get the most activity.

If we are allowed to talk about them then a separate thread like you said with the prefix of US or UK should be a rule.

Such as:

****The Walking Dead - Season 2**** [US]
****The Walking Dead - Season 2**** [UK]

The simple fact is that a large number of people download shows to watch. They are naturally going to want to talk about it here. It's really quite simple not to view threads in which they are doing so.

It really is quiet simple to follow rules as well....oh wait, no it's not.

Taken from the Copyright Legislation, Music Links And Forum Rules sticky at the top of this forum.

NO discussion of movies or tv shows that haven't been released in the UK, if it hasn't been shown in a UK cinema or on a UK tv station, no discussion is allowed.

Surely the best approach is to manage it, rather than try to prevent people what they are going to do any way?

Let's just manage paedo's abusing kids as they are just going to do it anyway.

Ok...that was a harsh comparison to make a point but it stands, the rules are simple...they've been this way for a long time, they will not change.

Yet the majority of the forum ignore them. Clearly, in the view of the majority of this forum, that particular rule is out of touch and should be changed.

I won't hold my breath though.

Nothing needs to change and we should be able to talk about it if it has officially aired in whatever country first. Thats it.

It stupid having these rules that you cant even talk about it unless its aired in the UK
