Summary

"Protesters in the Iranian capital, Tehran, have broken into the UK embassy compound during an anti-British demonstration, reports say.

Militant students are said to have removed the British flag, burnt it and replaced it with Iran's flag. State TV showed youths smashing embassy windows.

The move comes after Iran resolved to reduce ties following the UK's decision to impose further sanctions on it."

Firstly apologies if this has been posted and its a bit of a RSS but......

I was wondering what impacts this could have. Given it seems that a lot of western countries seem to upset with Iran wont this give them more ammo or will this simple end with us making a statement of how outraged we are and send a strongly worded letter while implying more sanctions?

I would think nothing will happen from this but wonder if things like this starts to happen more offered or happen to other countries couldn’t be bring more trouble on them self’s.

Any one with a better understanding care to share their thoughts?

Definitely a good way to show the west how wrong they are and how peaceful a country they are, storming embassies...

Yeah I know it’s kind of crazy really.

Something that made me laugh from the same link. First part I completely understand its *** for tat really but second bit with MPs chanting "death to Britain" sort of worrying that people that are meant to be professional leaders of their people would do this. But its not my country so I guess that could be really common term of reference used in all manners of conversations when you don’t like people or a country

"On Sunday, Iran's parliament voted by a large majority to downgrade diplomatic relations with the UK after the UK Treasury imposed sanctions on Iranian banks the previous week, accusing them of facilitating the country's nuclear programme.

Iranian radio reported that some MPs had chanted "Death to Britain" during the vote, which was approved by 87% of MPs.

Iran says its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes only."

They are just playing into the hands of those who wish to portray them as mad. Chanting death to Britain in parliament, I mean.... What?

tic toc tic toc

its only a matter of time until this all kicks off in the middle east

Indeed, our government and the US seem hell bent on another war >.>

We don't know they said that, they speak a different language without any comparable words, a few years ago their president said in an interview something along the line of "The regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time" meaning that he hoped one day Israel would fail and they could reclaim Jerusalem, however FOX news managed to translate that into "Israel shall be wiped off the map" then ran a news campaign about how he was planning a second holocaust.

The first thing Obama did when he got in office was ask Iran to come in from the cold. He "extends a hand" I believe was his expression. They snubbed the offer and continued on being complete raving mad lunatics, played out for everyone to see on the international stage.

this time it wont be aa bully boy easy as the other recent invasions
this time the russians will be on the other side, and its not going to go well

So in the 80's, we save the Iranian embassy in London from terrorists, using the skill and bravery of our special forces...

How times change eh? :p

We did cause a coup (MI6) in the 50's and invade them for their oil in WW2...

To be fair, America had spent decades being total ***** to them, hell they backed Saddam Hussain when he was fighting Iran.

We installed the Shah without asking them what they wanted.
We ended up with the Islamic Revolution because people were sick of the West meddling in Iran's affairs. This mad government is completely the US and the UK's fault.

But that's different, you see, because we wear ties and know how to mask our aggression.

Look at those mad men, getting angry and waving their arms about!

Isn't that technically an act of war? Or is it only if the military did something like that?
Embassies aren't actually the sovereign territory of the nation that occupies the building (so this isn't legally like Iranians storming Dover), although the host country does normally agree not to enter without permission and the embassy's occupants enjoy special legal privileges.

The first thing after 9/11 the Iranian elite condemned the action and offered the olive branch to America and they refused ... and flew out of the US countrymen and family members of those responsible for the atrocity. Crazy world eh!
