Iran protesters storm UK embassy in Tehran

The thing that ****** me off the most about all this is that US/UK politicians are running around screaming lolnukes whenever somebody mentions Iran and gearing up the public to expect a big problem with Iran (I think one guy running for the Republican leadership even said under him the US would conduct sabotage missions to stop Iran getting a working nuclear reactor).

But I'm not a politician or even that bright yet I can think of a simple solution that would improve relations with Iran, remove the threat of nuclear weapons, help the US or UK economy, and not even involve any armed forces. And if I can our politicians can too!

Embassies aren't actually the sovereign territory of the nation that occupies the building (so this isn't legally like Iranians storming Dover), although the host country does normally agree not to enter without permission and the embassy's occupants enjoy special legal privileges.

Relations between Iran and the West can't improve until we leave the Middle East. Iran wants to be the major player in the region (and would be if we weren't supporting their neighbours), while our governments want to bleed the area dry of oil. Those are competing agendas that cannot be reconciled.

Yup, good point. Everyone seems to forget about the nuance and conflict in internal politics when it comes to foreign countries.

Well regardless we started it by sanctioning them.

Some experts are giving iran an eta of 6-12 months before this happens, depending on the supply of componants from their russian and chinese allies. Iran is not without big strong political friends.

The UK should be careful, we won't have any aircraft carriers until 2020 or so and our friends across the pond cannot exactly be called reliable...
