Hi Guys

As per title

Looking to get my lad a 24" 1080P TV/monitor for Christmas as his PS3 is currently hooked up to main 42" TV which isn't ideal.

In general and connecting via HDMI, would a dedicated monitor with built in speakers give better picture quality than a TV:confused:

I've seen a Bush TV for approx £160.00 from the place where Pirates shop and you can pick up good 24" monitors from OCUK for circa £150.00.

Thanks:)

I'd personally suggest a telly, i've used both monitor and TV btw. The PS3 graphics look like **** on a PC monitor i'm sorry to say. When you have it plugged into the telly it looks a hell of a lot better + you can sit in comfort on a bed/sofa.

It's more to do with viewing distamces.

It's to do with the DPI and also viewing distances as well.

A 40" HDTV has a much lower DPI than a monitor and will usually be watched from further away, all of which hide the current consoles sub par graphics. Sit < 1 foot away from a monitor with a PS3 connected and it will look terrible

Ok, think you guys have answered my dilemma:)

I would imagine he will be sat pretty close (as he does on the 42" TV):)

TV it is

Many Thanks:)

My vote would be with a TV. It's nice to be able to watch telly and have built in speakers :)

Personally I run my PS3 through a 24" Dell monitor and at 1080p it looks glorious. Still I'll be replacing with a TV because of the reasons above.

Wrong. I have 30inch PC monitor and prefer playing ps3 games on it compared to my 42inch TV.

Just looks sharper on my pc monitor.

:p

Get one with picture in picture as well so you can watch TV and play games at the same time :D

This thread confuses me. Are you trying to decide between a 24" monitor and a 24" TV? Because if so DPI will be the same, as they are (I'm assuming the TV would be 1080p too) the same resolution and size .

Viewing distances would be the same as well, since they're, again, both the same size.

Still, get the TV he'll probably find it more useful :).

Yeah, that was my original query but based upon the consensus, I think the TV is the way to go:)

Can only assume it must be pixel pitch related:confused:

Anyway, both similar prices so TV seems the safe bet

Theres probably a lot more differences than youve considered, generally the panel in a monitor will be better than a comparable TV and the colour gamut, but it will lack the features and additional processing a TV would do. Then youve got things like input lag or motion blur to consider too...

Its much of a muchness though I guess when you have cost as a consideration at that size. For just a console a TV would be the better option. I use a monitor purely as its also connected to my PC...

ps3ud0

Yeah I know, I was referring to the comments made by others in this thread :).

I use a Samsung 24" PC Monitor for my Xbox 360 and it looks great. The only limitation I find is the crappy Xbox 360 graphics. :p
