I'm buying a monitor. Is 27 inch too big for 1920 x 1200 resolution?

Thanks guys. Well it's going to be difficult buying a monitor from OCUK that they haven't got :D I might wait for it to come back in stock.

Another question, are there any 25 inch IPS monitors out there worth a look? Or even 24 inch? I want to go bigger I just don't know if I'll notice much difference going from 22 inch to 24 inch apart from the higher resolution obviously.

I've progressively gone from 20", to 22", 24" and now 27" and there was a noticeable difference in all 'upgrades'. There's a big price leap in IPS panels between 23" and 24" for some reason - the only real option on the plate at 24" is the Dell UltraSharp U2412M. But then you need to ask yourself is that 1" increase worth the extra £130 or so? It's still only using an e-IPS panel at the end of the day.

I understand your concerns about Hazro. My first WC one had literally 150 or so stuck pixels and a problem where the screen would become distorted after a few hours. I returned it & bought the WD model which has around 6-7 stuck pixels (that are only noticeable on a black image from 2-3 inches away, every other colour is displayed correctly) and lint under the glass in the bottom right. But because the dot pitch is so small a few stuck pixels aren't a problem to me as 99.9% of the time I'm not looking that close at black images. Dead pixels on the other hand could be pretty annoying. Lint and dust seems to be a common problem on the glass version, so it's something I expected before I even set it up.

Refurb Dell u2711's are available on a certain popular auction site if you want assured quality and guaranteed no dead pixels. However, they only have a years warranty.

But from my experience you should never cut corners with monitors, because I've done that over the years and have probably gone through about 7 of them in the past 3-4 years. Not because they all developed a fault, but because I'd never be fully satisfied and it's been lingering on my mind that there's better out there! And the frustrating thing is I've probably spend £800+ on them all in total before I got the Hazro :)

Yeah, I have the Hanns G too. So yes, 1900 x 1200 on a 27" does exist, contrary to what people say on here.
I'm the only one who made such a claim and you left out two important details 'current' and 'va or ips panel'.
Then Hanns G is still current but it sure isn't a VA or IPS, it's a TN-panel like the great majority of monitors (if we get picky it's also 27.5" instead of 27" but that isn't much of a problem).

Thanks a lot for the info Axeia. What's the quality difference between VA and IPS? I'm kind of veering towards a 24 inch IPS though I like the sound of the Benq you linked it got good reviews.
To be honest if you're going to game on it 24" IPS panels are a waste of money imo, all 24" IPS Panels are 1920x1200 and a good deal more expensivee than 23" 1920x1080 panels. Now 1920x1200 is a very nice resolution for office work but in games it doesn't add much to the experience and the 1" gained is a rather expensive one.

Anyways,
IPS = Best colours and best viewing angles.
VA = Deepest blacks/contrast ratio's.
And TN is of course the worst when it comes to colour accuracy and viewing angles, but is the cheapest.

mamboboy are you happy with your hazro then??

Yep. Apart from the aforementioned problems and the average contrast levels, the monitor has blown me away in pretty much every other aspect. Windows 7 looks like a completely different OS and Skyrim has been so much more enjoyable to play. I'd have also preferred an aluminium bezel to justify the price jump between the WC and WD model... but you can't have everything I guess.

Extremely bad time to buy a Hazro though, prices are so high at the moment that you'd almost pay the same for the WC as I spend on my WD. Got my WD for £499.99, the WC is more expensive than it has ever been.. a whopping £479. The WD is £649.99 which is more expensive than the competing Dell u2711.

If it wasn't for the AG-coating the Dell would be the better monitor in every possible way.. really don't get why they don't offer a glossy option

The WC was £350 not so long ago. I'd probably buy one if they were that price again but £479? Not a chance.

I've been looking around for a 25 inch screen and can't seem to find one 27 inch might be too big for me I'll have it right in front of me and 24 is probably too small lol. I don't suppose you've seen any 25 inch IPS screens if such a thing even exists?

The prices have gone up because Hazro aren't sending out new stock out til at least mid December so I gather OC are making the most out of the current limited supplies. I managed to get the WD model last week for £479.99 from another retailer, literally a day before the prices rocketed :)

i use the VE278Q it is a very nice gaming monitor, also my text, web browsing, is perfectly clear, but maybe it is just my old eyes.

I purchased the last Asus VE278Q on sunday night it arrived today, very pleased with it, which setting/mode are you using on the display.

Dropped the brightness down to 70% straight away it was way to bright.

Cheers

I got Dell U2311H REV A03 with IPS panel and that was nice change tbh...fresh true colors, gaming experience is doubled counter to my old Samsung fullHD 22"...Colors can be even better if make proper settings adjustment as i have heard ,but didn't have money to buy any of that tools for color settings...but anyway so far so good (have payed it 180e) what is not rly much money... 1920x1080p resolution

was the hanns g a bad buy? only ask as i can get that one on a 12 month interest free deal and the VE278Q seems a bit hard to come by. is there that much difference beween the two?

My hanns g from 2008 was good till it had issues almost a year later
Hdml socket stoped working. OSD menu broke. The brightness and contrast would reset to 100 when trying to adjust it.. Then got wavy lines appearing on monitor when first turning it on for 20min.

Cant comment on the new ones but my old HannsG HG281D didnt seem well made when it had so many issues. but was good for gaming back then while it lasted. Cost me £280 then aswell ^^

The AOC 27" is no longer a VA panel its go a TN, the only other one 27" VA is the ilyama.

Well, I've gone and done it. Hazro WC is on special offer today for £350 and I just ordered one. It's the non glass version but I'm hoping it will still look as good as everyone says it does. It should be coming tomorrow. Had to get my partner to order it and I'll give her the cash as OCUK won't let me have it delivered to her address, same problem I had when I bought components from them the other day but the other stuff came the very next day.

I am officially excited!

IPS is so nice you will love it.

I have 2 IPS monitors, (listed in sig) 24 is 16:10 1920, the 27 is 16:9 and 2560x1440

No way would I go 1920 on a 27 and no way would I go 16:9 on 24, use my 27 for everything and the 24 for overflow or watching tv via tv tuner.

Can't go back to tn panel now.

Major downfall of my 2560 is i needed a second 6950 card! Resolution is perfect, but i used to use a 1920 17in laptop, so used to it, 2560 gives you room easily for a webpage, email client, folder open and even room for windows gadgets and docks. So much more versatile

I too have had the ASUS VE278Q for a couple of weeks now. First impressions were very positive (i was upgrading from a fairly old 20" Dell).

However, there does appear to be a fair amount of backlight bleed along the edges of the monitor on dark screens (skyrim loading screens for instance) which is somewhat annoying. I am going to go and have a proper session with the settings to try and eliminate it - does anyone have any advice on how bext to do this? Or is it just trial and error?
