Ipod Nano 1st Generation Recall

I have received the following e-mail

"Your request for a replacement IPOD NANO, Repair ID XXXXXXXX, has been cancelled."

anyone else had that?

Interesting... any reason why?

I am waiting for the return packaging as well, I was hoping someone would have had one back by now so we would know for sure what the replacements are.

No idea, they have now sent me another Repair ID, very confused. I suppose I will need to phone them and speak to a human being. I can only hope that it has not got lost.......

Confirmed I can get a replacement, so its an early one, had it 5 years and its pretty poor for something to die after 5 years use, one thing I hate about apple is the way they go about it making difficult to change the battery.

Did you find out why?

Replacements are definitely, so far, the same make/model as what you send in.

Got my packaging through on Monday, posted it off Tuesday. Now i shall be patient and wait to see what arrives.

ive got 1 to send back. everyone seems to get a box. i got a jiffy bag. my theory is, when they run out of 1st gen ipods to send out. they will send me a new one :)

OK, so I think I now understand this. Without the ipod Apple cannot send a repair! Posted to Apple on the 23rd November and according to the Royal Mail website it is still in their system.......Good job I got the proof of postage!

Sent mine off on the 28th November. Hadn't had an email saying they had received and started to worry as they said it would be 2 days. So I called Apple. I spoke to two people, first one could only see the info I could, and that it hadn't been received. The second person came onto the phone and explained they have had an overwhelming response to the replacement scheme and that they now have a large back log and that they will have probably received the nano but will not have been able to check it into their system yet. They requested my proof of postage in case anything has gone wrong with RM - so they emailed me and I replied with my proof of postage scanned. I'm now awaiting to hear anything again but she was very good with me and understood my concern and told me not to worry.

So I guess it's just a waiting game. She reminded me it would take up to 6 weeks for the replacement to which I said I understood but said I was more worried that it gone "missing" in transit.

I'll let you know when I hear something.

Wont they just refurb yours, quick clean/polish and new battery, job done?

I hope so, my wife has one of these and it's in immaculate condition and the battery is currently fine... I'll have to let her know about this though, better safe than sorry especially as it gets left in the car a lot now.

GO to the apple website and go to the support section, on that page you can find a Repair status link, then enter you repair ID and postcode or serial number and it will tell you.

I have since spoken to Apple again and she has said that they are about 5 days behind on checking in the post. So you can expect a good week's worth of back log - they've only just started sending out the first wave from people that posted there's in right at the beginning of the process...she reminded me again that even once it's checked in it can still take 6 weeks. She said she would keep me informed of progress.
