I'm sorry, is this a joke?
GTX570 pricing for a card inferior to a GTX570.....
Anyone that buys the card today is mental, as might well be Gibbo
Though I'm sure when Nvidia tank retail prices there are things in place to reimburse people for the tumbling card prices so Gibbo won't lose out but, when the 7870 launches, or the 7970 if its first, these will get tanked to circa £150, anyone buying now really is mental.
Its laughable pricing now in that its 570gtx prices, for less performance and a lesser card. When the prices all adjust for new cards, I expect some drop on 570/580gtx, but it would seem to me the 560ti(new) is their saving face card. Make it high end with very close to 570gtx performance........ but name it midrange, so in 4-6 weeks the 570gtx will be say £200-220, and this card will be £150..... but they can pretend they have a midrange and high end and all is well.
They aren't failed 570gtx's in all likelyhood, look how few 465gtx's there were, in general you get your "full" part, a salvaged part with 10% of the shaders chopped off does surprisingly well in getting a high yield off a wafer, and the rest are mostly so dead its not worth it. If Nvidia had enough salvaged parts that a "565gtx" was worth it....... it would have been released 6+ months ago now, not right on top of a new launch of competing AMD cards they have literally no answer for...... so they've made one up.
Why they didn't just make it a "full" 570gtx but with lower clocks, so at least people could get the speed and overclock it themselves I really don't know, plausible deniability I guess "no they aren't really 570gtx's we just can't sell because they are slower, use over twice the power, are noisier and simply less good than a 7870, its "really" a new core, we promise".
Either way, wait a month save a bundle, or buy a better card.
