Hey guys, Im getting my girlfriend a car stereo for Christmas and I have a maximum of £100 to spend. It MUST work with her iPod Classic as she wants to be able to listen to her whole music library? Thanks in Advance :)

I've recently just purchased the Alpine CDE111 - I got the orange one but the 111r is the green one: http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-cde-111r.html

This has the rear connecting lead for Apple products so you can put the ipod in the glove box/cubby etc and also has a front USB for HD's or flash sticks etc. This was a massive upgrade from my 15 year old Sony cassette deck. I'm very impressed with it and it can be had for as little as £89.99 (how much I paid). Worth checking out.

Alpine are lovely. Ive had mine a few years now. Simple design too which goes with my dash unlike some of the OTT displays about.

If it was just a present I'd just go down halfords, always plenty of offers on. Most connect to an ipod these days.

Another vote for Alpine and Pioneer.

Have you factored wiring harness and facia adaptor into your price?

Ant

EDIT: Anything that has room for an ipod to store inside isn't going to be rocking decent sound quality.

I agree with Alpine and Pioneer also, although I never could like the aesthetics of Alpine units.

I can't comment on the onboard amp as I'm using it with a pair of Alpine V12 external amps that I've had for years, but I have no issues with the sound quality.

The space for the iPod is gained by removing the CD transport which is actually bigger than the iPod storage.

Fair enough. The DAC is still in the headunit though no?

How do you find the Alpine amps, what're they powering? Looking for a new multichan at the mo!

I've had the alpine amps for a long lone time, they're powering a pair of 6x9 Alpine Type R 50w RMS speakers in the front and 6x6 Alpine Type R 50W RMS speakers in the rear along with some separate little tweeters using the crossovers provides with said speakers.

Not sure the exact model numbers as I've had this setup, head unit excluded, for around 8 years and used some or all of it in at least 4 cars.

And yes the DAC is still in the headunit, same as it is with most likely every headunit in the OPs budget.

FWIW, I doubt the OP's GF is an audiophile, given that they're looking at a budget of £100.

This is what I've got

Only replaced the one my car had because it stopped working, bought this unit second hand from Platypus (member on here)

I don't spend enough time in the car to warrant a really expensive one. Fits the bill for me
