Seems to be quite hard, I wanted this mug as the face always makes me smile, so I got the pic off the net, designed a custom mug and placed an order for it.

Turns out it was rejected for the following reasons:

--- Design contains text or image that is in violation of an individual’s rights of celebrity/publicity. If you are interested in purchasing Official Licensed Merchandise from Zazzle please visit: www.zazzle.com/brands

This is the mug:

Am I missing something? I asked them for more info about why they disallowed it, and they said:

--pictures or names of celebrities
--names of characters from books, films, or television shows
--titles of books, feature films, television shows, or magazines
--images from films, television shows, video games, or the internet

Quite clearly they are selling lots of similar merchandise, for example one which is using the exact same pic (the only reason I didn't order it is because I didn't want the text).

Do you need me to spell it out?

Good god it actually is him!

It is Yao Ming. The meme was uploaded to tumblr i believe and spread from there.

Just because, id email them asking why they can print and sell a mug with a representation of Yao Ming on yet not print yours.

Its not like they have artistic rights to the image!

As I said in the OP, they are selling at least one more similar product using the same image, I can understand if that is the reason but they should not have double standards!

Can anyone recommend any other good mug printing sites that will do something similar?

Using photo's off the net is not an issue. I recently got a mug printed with that famous Bob Marley / Mick Jagger . Peter Tosh picture on it for the old man. Finding one without a watermark and of good quality was the opnly thing that took time.

That mug needs to face the outside at every team meeting. Nobody will keep a straight face :p
