So i was talking to a friend about monitors and he says a lot of things are better about 120hz than 60hz, examples being Little to no screen tearing with vsync off, smoother gameplay and the ability to 3D

I know about the 3D but can anyone here confirm abouit the other two facts as i want to get a 120hz monitor in the future.

thanks!

Depends if you can tell the difference. Not many people can see the difference between 60hz and 120hz. If your friend lives close by, how about going over to his and see how you feel about it when it runs in both 60hz and 120hz 2D mode?

I did actually have a lock, and my eyes are one of those picky kinds.

I play a lot of FPS games, fast paced Unreal and such and i need the twitch reflex's.

But with vsync on i get that terribad mouselag with vsync on, but with vsync off i seem to have very unsmooth gameplay.

Smoothness wise i did notice it, but i didnt compare it to 60hz mode.

Really?! I haven't met anyone in person who can't. All you need to do is go to a desktop and drag a window around and compare between the two. Most people can easily see the difference, it's just whether you're bothered about it.

I used to use an IPS monitor and switched to 120Hz. It's transformed my gaming experience. If you're a keen FPS game player, I'd highly recommend it.

I purcahsed a 1920x1080 monitor when i didnt know about screen tearing and such, i want to sell it off and get a 120hz 3D monitor (possibility of actually bothering with the 3D is another thing) But i really REALLY hate screen tearing and i ****ing mind my language hate mouse lag in my games!

Seriously considering one too, my monitor atm is a 59Hz acer which is alright, but crap for gaming. I hate tearing

Yeah mate, when i had my old syncmaster932mw it was at a resolution that i didnt notice tearing or unsmoothness and it was 60hz.
Now i have a bigger monitor i notice this and i absoloutely despise both, planning on getting that asus vg236he if i can flog this HP2311x.

I got the Benq and the difference is noticeable but not huge. The mouse smoothness and moving windows around ECT is much better. Gaming wise the mouse smoothness and general moving about is better but I wouldn't say ground braking. Remember the 120hz will not eliminate the slight ghosting you get with other LCD monitors as that's down to response time. It does have AMA mode on my monitor which does reduce the ghosting but replaces if with a white halo effect.

It's better than 60 but not a huge difference. Maybe on slower systems it would be more noticable but even with vsync off @ 120hz I still get screen tearing which I hate. Screen tearing only occurs when you game is running higher than the refresh rate so on older systems would probably benefit from being smoother or the very latest games maxed out would also benefit from no tearing.

I think it's worth it if your getting a new monitor anyway but getting one just for the 120hz would be debatable.

I am happy with it but not blown away.

I used to have a TN panel and recently switched to an IPS - no probs with ultra-fast FPS games like Unreal so far, as well as BF3. Can't say I am fussed with 120 Hz but must admit some curiosity as to why so many people keep banging on about it.

Like I said above -> the difference is easy to notice, but it matters a lot more to some people. I'm pretty susceptible to motion blur and tearing, and 120Hz just adds so much more clarity to fast FPS games. For some people it really doesn't make much of a difference to their experience.

What current games can you play on your system that can utilise over +60FPS or even more noticably +100FPS because if it cant its a pointless waste of money

I don't see how it is with all the responses above saying that can see the difference.

I get noticable tearing just scrolling through this thread on my 60Hz Samsung but I am holding off getting a 120Hz until 2560x1440/1600 120Hz monitors come out hopefully late next year some time.
