Before anyone else spends ages deliberating over this:

There was a post from him, quite a few years ago now, and he informed everyone at the time that it was pronounced 'spy'.

Spie may well pronounce it Spy and as it his forum-name he would be correct in doing so.

However, in English, Spie would (if it was a real word following common European linguistics) probably derive from either Dutch or German with further etymology from Latin or one of the Medieval Romance Languages and in this case, (if it was a real word bound by common linguistic rules, especially given the Open Syllable in Dutch) it would be pronounced as in Key....thus Spee. You can see this with surnames such as Spiers (as in Spears)....although because English is a one for the exception to the rule, if you were from the Midlands you would probably pronounce it Spy.....(Spiers/Spears as Spyers) and so on.....(in my head it is Spee though)

So if Maccy says that Spie pronounces it Spy then that is perfectly correct, however a case could be made for Spee.....:p;)

The only one who can really clear it up is Spie himself.....

It is actually an acronym S.P.I.E. but I can't reveal what it stands for because he will have to ban himself.
Think along the lines of W.A.S.P.
