30/11 Strikes.

Clarkson's comments on strikers were stupid and unfunny - I like Clarkson, he's normally a lot funnier than that though. He was on very poor form yesterday, the "joke" about strikers is forgivable, his joke about suicide might not be - more should be made about it.

I don't care either way for Clarkson, but Unison have really made themselves look like idiots out of this. That woman the BBC interviewed was comparing him to Colonel Gaddafi and saying people would be scared to protest because of what he said.

Only this? I think it's the least of their problems tbh.

I cannot believe the furore surrounding Clarkson's comments. Actually that's a lie, I can believe it, but I continue to despair at the precious grating 'offendables' that crawl out of the woodwork whenever anyone says so much as boo to a goose. These people should get over themselves and get a grip. Nobody cares what they think other than themselves. I hope they are massively offended and deeply, deeply wounded.

Why would you wish people are offended and deeply wounded from an unjustified attack by another? It probably says more about you than anybody else to be honest.

I think his comments were stupid and illthought and at best he's become a parody of himself.

To all the others complaining about the concept of taxation, if you don't like it feel free to move? You can't enjoy nationhood without paying for it.

I intentionally said it that way because I knew someone would come along to be offended by other people. This is exactly the sort of language Clarkson uses and it is completely a parody of himself and completely not intended to offend. It's intended to be funny and to a great deal of people it is. Those do not find it funny should not find it funny, instead they seem to find great pride in feeling offended by it and moaning on TV taking everything he's said dead seriously.

His comments were humerous and flippant in nature. His entire public persona is to be like this. Have you stopped to think that he might not *actually* think that public sector workers on strike should be shot in front of their families? It was a joke and an intentionally fine-line remark. You give any possible seriousness of it more credence by caring. Did you even see it?

I wasn't offended by you, I merely asked why you would be so happy for others to suffer there is a difference.

Regardless of his intent it has to be accepted that unacceptable language will come across unacceptable and sometimes not only to the target audience. It may have been tongue in cheek, but it didn't come across like that too me much anyway. As for many finding it funny, people laughed at the shoot them bit but I didn't hear so much with the being dragged outside and shot infront of the family comment.. it may be his persona yet it didn't come across so flippant there. He did also seem to be mildly annoyed at the suggestion he would know any public sector workers, while growing fat on BBC tax payers money nonetheless. I have watched much of clarkson over the years, and I've heard a lot of his guff, but when people are concerned over their future it would seem a touch insensitive and merely re-inforces this hatred towards the public service pillars. I'm not bent out of shape over it in anyway and it doesn't really change my views on the man I already think he's a tube.

To say anyone is taking pride in taking offence is far too emotive, there is nothing wrong with being offended by that sort of language.

Lol...Clarkson was being Clarkson. He was clearly taking the pee, don't take everything so seriously.....

What happened to the impartiallity of presenters from yesterday then? ;)

I'm not taking it seriously but there are others who have, and they are entitled to they pay for the oaf to sit there and insult their existance like that.

That's dependent on program. News presenters need to be impartial.
Clakson and other pure entertainers don't need to be. They don't deal in what should be facts.

He still has to abide by the code of conduct.

In any event it would seem only OcUK deem it acceptable as everyone involved has apologised and even the Tories say it is unacceptable. Fancy that. ;)

I believe he said "forget everything i've said on the matter" :p

So you think it would be better for nobody to risk offending anybody ever than to teach people to take a joke?

loaded questions for teh win!
