Well yes I would agree with the weather and largely the lower income. Work ethic certainly I wouldn't agree with, and I'm not sure I'd agree with the diet thing anymore, although I'm sure there are statistics to prove me wrong.I'd agree with the weather/poor diet/lower income.

I love the word "extracted" when used in the contect of tax collection - conjures up an image of lying back on a dentists chair with a tax collector leaning over you with his knee on your chest forcibly removing £5 notes from your wallet.
We'll have someone saying taxation is stealing next.

Yes - everyone has a choice on whether to pay income tax and NI.

I am oft tempted to opt out of the state pension.
Nobody can opt out of all taxation. And you do make yourself look silly by being pedantic to the nth degree. Yes not everyone works so won't pay income taxes, but most people do have to (at some point) and when they do, they will find themselves being taxed forcibly under threat of imprisonment, and with no say in what the money is spent on.
Technically speaking taxation is forcibly removing money especially if you are PAYE as you have no choice, the money is taken at source. VAT is also forcible taking of money because it is already added to the price of goods where applicable.
We don't mutually agree to pay tax do we, we are forced to pay tax by the government, so i'd say extraction is a good word here, unless we become like greece and say taxation is optional

Thats a list of tax we pay one way or another. The only way to avoid that lot is to be an unemployed, non smoking, non drinking, non car owning, non family having, non gambling, non driver who makes no purchases ever apart from food which is exempt but make sure you don't eat confectionery, crisps and savoury snacks, hot takeaways, ice cream, soft drinks or mineral water as they are all subject to VAT !
Yes, you do not work you don't pay tax - well the more obvious taxation. Of course there is all the extra stuff we don't really think of in the main which is where they really get you.
