Hi guys,

I've been having problems with the data connection on my HTC Sensation all day. Most of the time, the phone has full signal but no data connetion. No G/3G/H icon, which obviously means no internet access.

The only thing that restores the connection is manually switching the phone to GSM mode. This then immediatly brings a G connection. If I then switch back to WCDMA/GSM auto or WCDMA only, I do restore my H connection, but it lasts only 10-15 minutes before vanishing again.

Nothing else - not rebooting, removing the SIM, turning Mobile Network on and off, etc - will restore it. Nothing at all.

I phoned Talkmobile who were quite literally as much use as a trapdoor in a canoe.

It normally works perfectly.

Any ideas?

When Orange do this (and it's happened a LOT recently) it normally means they're mucking around with the network and doing work on it.

As mentioned above, have you tried asking Vodafone if there's planned maintenance in your area?

Funny you should mention that, I had a problem with GPRS connection earlier. However, I put that down to my new sim card. Its fine now though.

I now have my Talkmobile SIM in a HTC Desire, and an Orange SIM in my HTC Sensation.

The Orange/Sensation combo works fine and has a data connection.

The Talkmobile/Desire combo... does not work. No data.

Talkmobiles customer service line shuts at 7pm. How quaint.

If you haven't adjusted any of the network settings, then it's quite obviously an issue with Talkmobile. Hassle them.

Hmmm...

My guess is the likely culprit is a part of the network that allows permission states for the internet (a "GR" in old speak) to user equipment. This may be having issues with the networks other parts (SGSN and GGSN) which allow for access to the internet and the routing of those packets back to you. If you look up what these are then it's worth noting when it refers to GPRS in this way it means the service as a whole - not the speed.

This is pretty complex stuff that you're unlikely able to effect aside from getting through to 3rd line support as only they have the ability to do things that might help (like sort a purge of your details from a VLR). It is likely something a local tower has broken but as you appear to be suffering all day I think your details might be duff in the network Radio DBs sorry.
