Winter tyres, serious size question

Thats not a tyre wear garantee , that says that the tyre will not have a manufacturing defect if they last that long ...come on guys ....

I can't see anything about that on the website, and the basic bullet point stipulates treadwear specificaly... there is no mention of manufaucturing defects, which are covered under normal consumer rights anyway...

It says to me that the tyres are constructed with a very hard compound, which would suggest that they are utterly rubbish in terms of grip.

CRITICAL WARNING

Today in the South East it is 3C at 8:26 AM.

I would go outside, but peering out of my window I can see my car spinning itself on the spot because it has summer tyres.

Fox how on earth can you tell that his dad's BMW has Nexen tyres from the pictures he posted? No amount of squinting or zooming in for me will show! You must have some crazy CSI image enhancement utilities :p

1c this morning - shocking stuff. I hope Dandle is going to do the right thing for the safety of his family and not use his 5 Series again. We are well past the piont where all Summer tyres transform into the same Wan-Li ditchfinder and all winter tyres offer similar performance to an F1 tyre.

There must be something rather weird going on with my deathtrap Conti's though, as even pulling out of a junction with a bit of enthusiasm didn't show up any additional lack of grip. How strange?

Metoffice showing no snow in England forecast right through as far as the end of 2011.

Well it was snowing this morning 430am in teesdale?

And last time I checked teesdale was in England?

im thinking they are plastic rings with 40k warranty

As a note, driving last night in 4c temps, I found I had a lot of wheel spin in 1st-3rd gear when giving it the boot. Did this on a number of roads and had the same effect.

I don't normally get that much spin in the wet, let alone the dry. Shows that the cold does affect grip in a real world scenario - e.g. me booting it!

I bought some primacy alpin's before winter tyres became cool, just cause I had no tread on some falkens a few years ago and they were getting a little hair raising.

Chap at the tyre place was doing a special on michelin winter tyres so thought what the hell - god knows you wouldn't get cheap winter tyres these days :)

They do grip better in cold damp conditions (cold as in around 0 or slightly below - common on the drive to work or a late drive home) and they've been a life saver for hols (I spend 2 weeks in the lakes each jan/feb) when the kirkston pass / struggle can be covered in ice/snow and a detour would take an hour or more.

I wouldn't bother for the midlands but I imagine if I lived in the north of england or scotland AND had to venture out of the towns / cities regularly they'd be not so much a 'nice to have' but a 'must have'.

Since going up from 200bhp to 300bhp I have found them to be past their competency - but they're a primacy not a pilot. They save a bit of wear on my soft road/trackday tyres so I don't mind too much.

Regarding sizes, I've never heard of anyone using a different size to their standard tyres, usually a slower speed rating but size and load should remain the same.
