Glasgow: more than 50000 people dunk every evening...

This morning I've read on our newspaper ( abroad news ) an article about Glasgow..

Authorities are very worried about this thing, in fact every evening at least 10000 people goes in pubs and bars but at the end of the evening 40000 to 50000 people are not very happy because they must go in hospital ( for injuries ) or worst, to the police for a brawl or something like that. Now, I don't know if this news could be real or not, we know that sometimes newspapers invent "curiosity" news because the page is empty.

Here is sure a better place to become an answer...

The population of Glasgow is around 600,000 from memory so the claim is that approximately 1/12th of the population has to go into hospital of an evening for injuries. Not a chance, just couldn't be happening.

If you wanted to tell me that 50,000 people in Glasgow might be various stages of drunk in an evening then maybe I'd be inclined to believe that but not that they're all in hospital or in trouble with the police.

We have a huge problem with binge drinking by young people. Many of them do not know what harm they are doing to themselves:

sorry, you are right but I wanted to write that 50000 people in Glasgow become a various stage of drunk...it's not a littel portion anyway...

tbh most people will drink at least once a week 18-60 year olds.

The drinking problems in Scotland didn't fully sink in until it resulted in cumulus talking about it instead of the weather.

always loved Scotland and have been several times, Aberdeen, Montrose, Stoneheaven....

Not to think that in Switzerland we don't have the problem, try to go one evening in a local bar ( also in zuerich ) and you will see what happen. If you go in the southern Europe they probably have other problem but not alkohol.

I absolutely abhor the drinking culture that exists in this country. I think it's absolutely ridiculous. Great to have a few pints to get you merry or whatever, but people vomiting, suffering memory loss, getting paraletic etc regularly is quite disturbing.

I don't have to drink that much to get memory loss so don't go tossing that in there

I enjoy a good few pints, and get drunk off about 3 (lol) but I'm not particularly wanting to make myself ill, put myself in hospital or anything like that. It's just enjoyable at that point.

This might come as a surprise to you, I have never been in hospital from drinking, you can go out drink all day and still end up not being sick or fighting.

Its all about education and self control. I can go out and drink 10 pints no danger and be polite and have self control.
