Used GTX 460 *** crashing in Furmark and OCCT.

Just purchased a used EVGA GTX 460 *** edition so heavily stock overclocked.

I reinstalled windows just before I installed the card as I have a new SSD. When I run Furmark or OCCT GPU test the screen blacks out about 40 seconds in. I have to manually power off and power back on again to restore image.

I cant test with any games as the download time on my connection is many hours.

Has any body heard of issues like this being caused by drivers? Or shall I give the chap a ring and ask him to pick up the card and refund me?

Thanks

Approx 2.5 year old Antec 550W NeoHE. Ran a 8800gt for many years and 5850 Furmarked for hours last week so I don't think it is the issue.

Sounds like drivers. My 460 SC drives often stop working and I just get a black screen only lasts for about 2 secs though.

My crashes are permanent, my USB soundcard powers off at the same time so it seems like a "proper" crash.

Which would lead me to think it's a power issue. The GTX 460 requires quite a bit more power than your previous 5850 and that's presuming they're both stock. As you've mentioned the EVGA one you've got is a heavily overclocked version requiring even more power. Have you tried underclocking the card using Afterburner? Are you able to test with a different PSU?

That happened to my EVGA 460 OC after I updated the driver. I just rolled back to the old driver and problem solved. If you google it up, it seems to be a common problem.
