hi
i havnt got a lot to spend on a tv because the kids have sucked all the spondos out of me so i have been looking at the lg 50pv350t . its getting some decent reviews and i have seen it for £600 with a 5 year guarantee . or under £500 without
what do you lads think

but they arnt 50 inch just 40/42 and i would like a bigger set could anyone recomend a 50inch for roughly the same price and spec because i reckon its a steal at £549
cheers

The point is they are very good 42 " sets and you don't have the budget for a very good 50" set - if all you care about is size then youll be happy

well im going from a 32inch brick tv so im sure it will be better than that . i will be viewing the set from about 9 feet so i would be better with a bigger screen .
im sure there are some great quality 32inch sets but that wasnt my question was it vila
cheers for the input

I got the LG set you're looking at and it's a VERY good TV for the money. The Panasonics are slightly better sets, but it's a trade off of 10" vs a small difference in picture quality.

Thanks for that . I've read a few reviews and I saw the set running at a shop . The pic looked fine and at range I'm viewing it at it should be fine . I can't see anything that will touch it for that price but I'm open to other peoples views as I'm not getting it for a couple more weeks
Cheers

Well the point is ' 32" Brick TV's " have great pictures with standard def television and large screen plasma's often look very dissapointing with SD material.

well the point is there are more and more hd channels appearing so your sd point is a bit of a moot point . one or two of my mates put me off plasma a bit saying they were old tech . i dont know how true that is but im looking at led as well now so for about £600ish an led or plasma now
cheers

my god its like a ****ing childrens playground in here.
Vila states the truth regardless of whether you want to hear it - there is NOTHING better then a Panasonic Plasma out there regardless of the size.

Your be trading quality for a bigger screen so if thats what you want to do go right ahead, but imo i would choose quality over screen size any day ands its not as if 42" is lacking in anyway.

oh and your mates are talking crap, even a comet sales person knows that plasma isnt old 'tech'. if anything LED is the oldest given that its just a modified lighting of LCD displays and called something different to get gulliable people into thinking its the latest and greatest. Plasma has been developed a lot since the old days - the tech is pretty much flawless and produces some amazing natural pictures.

your absolutely right , i thought it was only the g/card section . if you read my original question . it seems only one person has . and thank you for clearing up the plasma issue . for the last few years now people have been recomending panasonic . do you think i should get a bit more dosh ( if poss ) and go for a panny
cheers

No idea if I can mention these, if not feel free to delete them. I would recommend going to Richer Sounds or John Lewis and seeing the picture for yourself. Get them to play HD and SD images, take a DVD etc with you and make sure you watch something that you will use the TV for (so if you watch football, make sure you have some footage).

Also check out AVForums, I spent hours researching the different types of TVs/manufacturers and the pro's/con's of each type of TV.

hi
ive just been to the electrical store that was sold for £2 to have another look at the lg with the wife . she didnt like it but we did see samsung ps51550 for £699 and was notably better pic than the lg . ive looked at some reviews and they were good . ive seen the set online for £560 . trusted reviews gave it 9/10 . if i couldnt get a decent 50inch for my budget then i would consider a smaller set . have a look what do you lads think .
cheers

One thing to be very careful of (and this why people recommend places like Richer Sounds, as if the shop is quiet they may help with this) is that usually; TVs in shop are setup to be bright, and on dynamic.

As these places typically are high on the background lighting, they appear the brightest, most colourful and look best in store, when you take them into a home environment and try to get decent, realistic colours, you sometimes find the case can be very much different.

By the way, was the screen the 550 PS51D550 or something different?

Going back a few years ago, LG traditionally suffered retention more than the others, Samsung didnt always last as long/had more QC issues, and Panasonic were the better quality plasma sets (as Pioneer had left the market). Not sure if its still the case, but worth bearing in mind.

If I DID get the correct screen model, this might be of interest to you:

Obviously the last 10 pages should be more relevant as the screens will have newer firmware etc.

hi alex
just read a few of those pages and it seems a few people are having a few problems . i wonder if they have changed the panels on the newer set mmmmm
cheers

The LG has some pretty crappy settings at default FYI. The backlight is set to alter, with VERY noticable steps and the contrast is way too low, the brightness way too high.

Definitely have a play with the settings.
