IIRC don't think you have to, but most people do it I think as everything is apart at the time and saves money on labour.

Missing my old one and with a company car the Impreza hasn't moved for 2 weeks as the 3 series does all the day to day stuff better and cheaper
Could probably remap the WRX to give it some more oomph to play with, but not as much fun still and drinks fuel as it is.
Seen a really nice one for sale as well, so so tempted.
