**The Official Nokia Lumia 800 Thread***

I upgraded through Orange and have had the Nokia Lumia 800 since launch and i've gone off it completely. :(

Going to get another iPhone, once I sell it.

How come? Did you want a iPhone to start with?

I've had iPhones for since they came out. Just liked the look of the Nokia and the look of Windows Phone 7 and the offer of a free xbox if I upgraded tempted me in.

What has put you off it?

I'm not getting on with the browser. Can't seem to set a homepage on it. No forward button.

I don't like how it handles emails. If I receive an email and read it, then go on to check my emails on my computer several hours later, the emails are still marked as unread. You have to manually select the synchronise button to make sure that they are read on the server end.

Location services is either on for all apps or off completely. If I leave it on then the battery life barely lasts a day.

It's probably my fault for not researching the phone properly. It's a very good phone just not for me.

Thanks, reason I asked is I'm trying to decide between keeping the Lumia or Galaxy Nexus :D

Not a bad situation to be in I suppose.

I would agree with your comments about the browser, it's a little poor. Don't have the problem with email, all my email accounts are picked up by Gmail and I only use Gmail on the phone.

What email providor do you use?

Very strange. I have no problems with GMail as I use that on mine without any problems, I currently have it set to push rather checking every so often. I also have a Hotmail account setup in the same method, which is working like the GMail account.

However, I do have my ISP email account setup which is basic POP3 account which doesn't read the messages but I wouldn't expect this to as its not a live account so to speak.

Looking at the settings, I don't believe you can change the homepage unless I have missed something.

Some applications allow you to turn location based services on or off I have found.

I have been roughly getting around a day from mine, which around the same as my SE Arc. I believe Nokia are due to release a update soon to address a number of little niggles with the handset.

One thing that i have found really impressive is how quick the GPS is and Nokia drive is epic. :D

I've had the Lumia 800 for a couple days now, black, brief impressions:

What I like:
User friendly fast OS, came with a case, great camera, doesn't get hot (like htc), its Nokia, sync'd to my work Outlook and other email accounts well.

What I don't like:
Often on first launching an app you get an annoying disclaimer along the lines of 'do you want to share your info with MS' - err no.
Battery life is pathetic, barely get to 24 hours with all the battery saving options enabled and low brightness - the software update to remedy this can't come soon enough.
Its Nokia without Symbian, it was finally starting to get somewhere just too late, RIP.

Thanks for that andyd

One of the tests we ran was to make sure that if you are in an open area it can find you in < 3 seconds ;)

:D

Id say around 99.99% of the time, its instant. If I was to compare this against my SGS2 that on average too about 30 seconds.

While you can't make a default homepage for the web browser, what you could do is load up your "homepage" and then from the menu select "pin to start". You then get a tile which launches the browser to that particular page, which you could use instead of the default browser tile.

While there is no forward button, any page you have visited will be listed in the recent menu.

The Nokia Maps & Drive are pretty epic to be fair. Love the way it downloads the maps to the phone as well.

Means that people that will never use it, needn't download the map package and waste space. Also means that people that use it a lot won't get annoyed with having to wait for the maps to cache etc.

Still nothing from Handtec about my Cyan one, thought this week I might have heard sommin but not a thing, im thinking now they arnt going to have them in till next year, which peevs me off greatly.

I've been trying to set up my 800 for my work email and it's doing my head in now, I can do it in a flash with android and iOS.. even my N9 was a doddle.

Using the same settings on my 800 and it just isn't having it, it seems to think it wants a domain but we don't have one (certainly leave it blank on Android etc etc)? How can I work out what the issue is? Any suggestions?

Unfortunately I can't ask for help from my IT dept because it's not supported (computer says no etc).

Gah... minor annoyance "their is an update for your phone!".. ok, lets go into settings, phone update, "connect to your computer".. ok, Android didn't need but fine, download Zune for PC... why? nevermind ok........

Windows XP SP2 is unsupported.... FFS, what a pile of crap..
