Which would you choose, Senn 558, DT770 or DT990?

I can't decide, all are similar prices with very good reviews. I want a pair for overall comfort and quality when playing games, listening to music (Good Bass) and watching movies? Would I need a sound card and amp too, any good combo recommendations?

all excellent choices id go sennheiser easier to source parts should anything go wrong in a few years time they have interchangable parts. so a cheap fix

The same could be said about both the beyerdynamics, in fact i am willing to bet that the sennheiser 558 has less interchangeable parts.

Had my 770's for years now, use them for gaming, movies and music, 80 ohm so no amp required, cant praise them enough.

They all sound different and for the Beyers it depends also on which version you buy. (Pro or Premium).

Generally, the Beyers will have more bass and be brighter whilst the Senny is more laid-back sounding but light on the bass. Also, the DT770 is the only one of those which is closed so consider that if you want minimal sound leakage.

I'm defiantly leaning towards the 770s, mainly for the closed back design and because I like good bass, which version do you recommend 80 or 250, pro or premium?

Could you recommend a good card and amp combo that would work well with them guys?

How much do you want to spend?
I got the DT770 pro 250 ohms that I use with my Xonar essence stx and they work really well together.

DT770 would be my choice for closed back - tho I'd go for the 990s personally as I like open ones. Senns are good and usually first on my list for reccomendations but I think the DT770s are a bit better.

The Pro versions are more V-shaped in FR while the Premium versions are more balanced. The Premium 600ohm version is considered the "best" version. However, the Pro 80ohm is the popular version with the big bass and the lower price tag.

Don't go for the Premium 32ohm, it is bass-light relative to the other versions and also is pretty insensitive (not easy to drive) despite the low impedance.

Thanks for the heads up. 80 ohm similar to the 250s, or is the a big difference in quality ?

I have 770 Pro 250 Ohms. They're amazing can't be more happy with them.

Will be buying the the 770 250s :) Ideally, I don't really want to spend £100+ on a sound card but if it really makes a big difference then I will. Are there any cheaper ones that will do the same or will I only see the best quality with the xonar stx ?

You would need a sound card with a built in amp to drive the 250 ohms version. The only ones I know are the xonar dg and the essence stx. I never owned the creative cards so I don't know which ones have an amp built in.
But I can tell you that the dt 770s sound great with the xonar essence stx. The bass is not over powering and I am hearing sounds in bf3 that I couldn't hear before with my goldrings ns1000.
If you don't fancy a new soundcard you could get an external amp to drive the dt770s again I don't really know what ones are good to drive the dt770s as the only experience I have is of the fiio e5 with goldrings ns1000 running off the xonar d2.
All I can say that I am more than satisfied with my current setup and it's money well spent because it should last a long time and provide me with great sound for many years to come.
