deaths on UK roads

Very dodgy dataset, there is one near me recorded as taking place in August 2009 with weather conditions of heavy snow.

Wonder how much of the rest of it is so poor.

Apparently someone died at the bottom of my road due to snow in the daytime on August 3rd 2005.

I suspect not personally.

The one serious accident I know of that happened fairly recently is on there, my mum was in the car behind.

It's missing at least two road deaths that happened two years ago on the road that Macclesfield General hospital is on.

The information is stupid, just look at the buxton area, they haven't even broken the dataset down into car / motorbike correctly, it's simply bunched into 'all'.

the ones near me appear to be quite accurate (but then i am only recalling the "higher profile" big ones from recent years.

would be good if the data could be used to show whether the south east really has the worst driving standards in the universe.

Exactly, on such a prolific road for deaths you'd think the information collated would be crystal clear.

hospitals would go out of business this time of the year if we all bought winter tyres BTW

36,371 people in 11 years, 3306 a year, 275 a month, <10 a day (well, closer to just over nine but 9.28 people doesn't work, well unless some of them are disabled like me)

<10 people killed on our roads a day is pretty good in my view, especially as this is all people killed on roads not just car crashes/etc. If a drunk pedestrian stumbles out in front of a truck that's hardly the kind of accident you can combat with speed cameras is it.

I would imagine the person who transcribed the data used the wrong markers for the weather.

Near me it has some strange snow patterns, but the rest is accurate.

All I've learnt is

1. It snows in Aug/Sept around me apparantly
2. If you are on a push bike (I commute regularly on one), do it in the Rain/Snow, all accidents happen in fine/daylight weather..

The scary thing is, I remember quite a few of the ones near me. :(

In all seriousness, this was caused by a kid being stupid and showing off in front of a party by doing handbrake turns and burnouts.

I remember being diverted on the way to work the morning after this happened:

IIRC, it was the night of an England match and three of those passengers blagged a lift home from the pub with someone. From a picture I saw there was very little left of the car with the five people in.

Not sure how a third car was involved though; don't recall anything being said about that at the time.

Close but totally wrong, it was not raining but the was ice on the road caused by rain the night before (and the local council having run out of grit).

This site's information is pathetic, its totally missing an accident in ~2008 in almost the same spot where a young couple were killed by a junkie who was tripping his balls off and speeding down the wrong side of the road...

As long as we all didn't assume we were invincible and, like, get involved in accidents.
Actually I'd like to see some reliable figures about cars in accidents in snow and ice that were equipped with winter tyres. In case there were any at all.

I'm sure I read we are 4th best in the world for safest roads... 10 deaths a day is rather "good" considering how many miles are done a day.

No death is good but you know what I mean... :-/

Hmmm on reflection, one of the roads i rag down monthly for my "fun" drives is also where one of my friends died and i didnt know... :/

Was just about to post this screen shot... I live around the corner and was on the road when it happened.

Just found a fatal RTC that happened near my secondary school in Scotland in 1999, I think remember the road being closed that afternoon and the police vans blocking the road.
