evga 1.5gb vs 3gb

Depends on the resolution. If it's something like 1920x1200 then the 1.5gb will perform better thanks to it's higher clocks, but on massive resolutions such as 2560x1440 I would imagine the 3gb having the edge.

However I can't seem to justify spending £600+ for a 580... That's almost the 590/6990 area.

Like Orcvader, I think paying £600 for a 580 is just bonkers...

I game at 1080p and a 1.5GB 580 is fine for anything.. Even BF3 all ultra'd out.

Though if I was buying a card now, I'd buy a cheap second hand card to see me through till Jan/feb when the next gen cards are released that are expected to be 70% faster than a 580.

If you are playing at 1200p or less and not planning to SLI then there is zero point in getting the 3Gb. It won't improve performance at all.

Oh dont get me thinking about another monitor too!!! bad people!!!

It'll be 1920x1200 max, mostly 1920x1080 for 1080p for screencaps.

If you're getting another monitor, you'll want to get two. Unless you like having a line down the middle of your game view area

Cheers for the input guys, food for thought.

Yes it was all good advice ;) Just the big problem of getting you mind off the upgrade :D

If You fail, just go get the cheapest 570 you can find !, until the new stuff. A 580, 3gb or not, is not a worthwhile boost over a 570's performance !

Not to mention the Hydro Copper you linked requires you to spend money on a custom water cooling loop too, so add money for a pump, res, radiator, etc...

+1 to the 570, or wait for AMD's 7000 series.
