David Ford - Live in New York

I say it all the time but this man is one of the best singer songwriters of his generation and is sadly so undervalued it scares me. He's also written an excellent biography of his time in the music business which is a must read for anyone who ever dreams of 'making it'.

Times of Grace - Hymn of a Broken Man
Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - (eponymous)

I *think* these are the only albums that have grabbed me this year.

I was initially excited about Foo Fighters effort but I quickly realized there's only 3 songs on there that I like (Burning Bridges, Rope, White Limo). So not exactly brilliant.

The Times of Grace record is pretty amazing, but the final few tracks aren't *quite* as good as the majority of the album. Same thing for Noel Gallagher's album, the three penultimate tracks are even more so of a let down for what would otherwise be perfect.

Whilst no album, anything and everything released by Celldweller has been nothing short of astoundingly brilliant - so much so that I'm finding it really hard to appreciate anything else, even Blue Stahli :(

Beardfish - Mammoth
Anthrax - Worship Music
Steven Wilson - Grace for Drowning
Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn of Events

This is exactly how I feel also. It seemed like a cracking album on first listen but in reality there are a few stand out tracks and the rest is frankly, a bit boring.

I haven't been particularly bowled over by any 2011 albums, but I have thoroughly been enjoying the following:

Ben Marwood - 'Outside there is a curse' [acoustic/one man and his guitar - great lyrical content, catchy acoustic tunes and great singalong music: songs to sample: 'I will breathe you in', 'singalong' and 'they will float your body...']

Your Demise - 'The kids we used to be' (technically winter 2010 but I didn't hear it then :p ) [contemporary hardcore with some real power- translate live into raw energy and annoyed security! songs to sample: 'miles away', 'scared of the light' and 'shine on'.]

Dntel - 'Life is full of possibilities' [atmospheric synth - relaxing and multi-layered music for either background or contemplation. Fans of thepostalservice or deathcab enquire within. Songs to sample: 'Dream of Evan and Chan', 'umbrella' and 'last songs'.]

The Wonder Years – Suburbia I’ve Given You My All and Now I’m Nothing
Touch Amore – Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me
The War on Drugs – Slave Ambient

A couple of others i really liked:

Russian Circles - Empros
Gang Gang Dance - Eye Contact
Zola Jesus - Conatus
Austra - Feel it break
Metronomy - The English Riviera
Wild Beasts - Smother
nicolas jaar - space is only noise
the weeknd - the weeknd

I'm sure there's more but i can't remember them off the top of my head.

In addition to what others mentioned, to my surprise:

Uriah Heep - Into The Wild
