First good dumping of snow today in Cumbria

One thing I found really useful in the pathetic smattering of actual proper cover everything snow we had last year was popping down to an empty carpark in the 530 and learning how it handles in low to zero grip conditions. A shame the police take a dim view of this sort of thing because I think I learned a heck of a lot about how to react if something goes wrong. It also gives you a bit more confidence in what the car is going to do because it's less a case of 'I wonder what happens' and more a case of 'I know what happens'.

This is true, they should set up 'scenarios' like this as normality to allow the general public to go and learn how to control their car in a skid etc.

Surely if you wanted to know the full limits of your car then you would take an advanced driving course and I don't mean just the IAM stuff either.

I'd argue it doesn't teach you very much that is useful. You can get away with anything at low speed on snow, that experience won't help you when you when the rear slides out big time at 60 in the dry coming off a roundabout.

You have to pay for that, there should be council run schemes for this, it would probably stop more crashes than speed cameras! That or just let people play.

I'd be more up for our tax money being spent on that this giving fatties gastric bands because they're too lazy to lose weight for example too :p

(I know it's not the same pot, but still, better use of the money :p)

If the rear slides out big time at 60 in the dry coming off a roundabout then something is very, very, very wrong with your car.

Or it's a 600bhp tuned Skyline GTS with no driver aids.

pretty darn easy in a 300bhp with no driver aids to be fair. You think your 335i wouldn't have got wild if you gave it a healthy dose of throttle off a r'bt with the DSC off?

Do you drive with the DSC off? I have never managed to get any serious angle with the DSC on in the E46, E39 or E60, and anyone who has been in a car with me will testify I'm not exactly scared of giving things a go...

No, I just have directional front and Asym rears. Fine in summer, **** scary, yet grin inducing, in winter. :)

The resultant step out caused a shirt to come off it's hanger behind me and end up on the other side of the car in a crumpled mess. :(
