Anyone think The Beatles are overrated?

Oasis > The Beatles wtf twisted universe is this???? Oasis' musical contribution to the world is what George Harrison scraped off his shoes with a stick.

Yes. They were (and still are) incredibly influential and for that I'll be forever grateful, but they just don't grab me like they seem to grab most people. Strange as my music tastes would probably show that I should love them, but they just don't quite do it for me consistently enough. Some great songs, a few great albums, but not the demi-gods they're made out to be.

Not many days go by without me playing some beatles, or solo stuff, later bands, they have such an amazing catalog with lots of different styles.

I've Got Blisters On My Fingers!

Can't stand them, or their music. Never could.

I could probably say that means that I think they're overrated, but in the end it's all about opinion and mine means just as little as the next idiot's, so...

Easyrider is bang on with his posts and cm1179 you need to do some homework.
The Beatles were far from manufactured, they were made from friends and gigged their arses off before Love Me Do entered the charts.
John Lennon was a brawler and probably had more fights than both the Oasis brothers put together.
I could just imagine the Oasis brothers down the Rieperbahn (sp!) at The Beatles ages, they wouldn't have had a clue.
They were definitely not clean cut as you think.

RIGHT back to Poppa Dimple.
I've asked him about their influence at the time and he said he got to see them live 3 times before they became famous and on the 3rd time they supported them.
In the old days about 6 bands used to play a 30 to 40 min slot and the first time he saw them they were about 3rd on the bill and they came on and blew the place apart.
He said he had never seen a band like it, they were incredible and doing stuff you wouldn't normally do.
The second time they were top of the bill and once again nobody could match them for energy and what they were putting out.
When it came to supporting them I asked why his band hadn't changed their style but he said all bands were scared to change in case they weren't booked and dance halls expected you to play the dross but The Beatles stuck 2 fingers up to it and won.
He said they were a bit like the Sex Pistols of their day.
About 6 months later after supporting them he saw them on Sunday Night at the London Palladium and history was being made.

You're right, but when they made it big you can't deny they made a decision to sell a clean cut image for early success. It when they were established they felt they could do there own thing

exactly. they were a manufactured band, it was a case of no one having done it before that they weren't aware they were manufactured. they were manufactured and toured, on a shoe string. i'm not even a beatles fan but i know this.

john lennon only showed his true colours (he was an arse) when he thought they had the clout to get away with it.

anyone who can't understand this has beatle vision.

Wearing Suits was common place in groups of that era.

The Beatles haircut " The Moptop" came from Germany from influence from Astrid Kirchherr and Klaus Voormann in the Hamburg Days of playing 8 hours a night in Clubs around Reeperbahn.

The Beatles were not Manufactured...Brian Epstein told them to ditch the leather jackets and wear suits.Thats it.

As for The Rock and Roll thing... Amphetamine, Alcohol and playing gigs with loo seats on their heads was common place...Fights were common and free sex.

Now stop posting BS its embarrassing

John Lennon said to Be a Beatle you needed to be a **** (rhymes with Hunt) and the Beatles were the Biggest **** of that era.

You know nothing

The Monkees were manufactured you noob not the beatles :p

I'll take Oasis - not sure if you're a musician or not but SO much of their stuff is heavily influenced by the Beatles, they admit it themselves. Infact a few of their songs you could sing a Beatles track over the top!

The thing is, those influenced can surpass what the influential factor has done.

Messi is influenced by Maradona but come the end of Messi's career, some even say now, he is/will be a better player. Some say he needs to win a World Cup, some say he's the greatest now as he's playing against fitter, stronger, more tactically advanced players. I just think Oasis took what The Beatles did and made better music as a whole package. If I were to put in maths I'd say it like this.

The Beatles

90% instruments
60% vocals

Oasis

80% instruments
80% vocals

On an average The Beatles score 75% whereas Oasis score 80%. The Beatles were better instrument players but I think Oasis were better at putting together a complete production, the finished article with vocals too.

Don't get me wrong, The Beatles had some great vocals too but not on the same level. Most of their vocal work I admire was them as solo artists or with artists like Michael Jackson. Imagine, The Girl Is Mine, to name a couple.

You must be on crack....Absolute nonsense on every level. Funny though I give you that.:p

Not overrated at all. I don't like all of their songs, but I like some and they're great. I can see why they are regarded as the best.

What I do hate seeing is 15 year olds wearing their Beatles t-shirts when in reality they've probably heard one song and can't name any of their albums. :p

weather you like the Beatles or not how can you even say they are overrated!

how can the worlds greatest band ,known world wide that still sells millions of songs to this day be overrated ?

inb4 Justin Bieber.

Loads of over rated musicians sell. Now I'm not saying The Beatles are anything near JB but come on, they're not the greatest band ever. I'd rather listen to the Jackson 5 to be perfectly honest or some other Motown. I can appreciate that they appeal to others but the greatest band ever? Hell no!

Selling records doesn't equate to quality music. They whipped up hysteria, got a massive fan base and did practically what JB is doing now with all these girls dribbling over him. Its called taking advantage of the opportunities that have been presented to you and knowing how to capitalise on them. Lets face it, they weren't the best band in the world, they were just amazing businessmen with a good team and they knew fully well how to gain massive influence in the sector. For that, I applaud them, its true genius to be able to whip up a frenzy so much that the propaganda that stems from it still has brainwashed many today but thats because of the knockdown effect from generations.

Give it 30 years and you'll have middle aged women telling their offspring how in their teens they all craved Justin Bieber in underwear and how he was adorable. Its all hype, nothing less, nothing more.

was having your own board game and talcum powder also common place?

like i said, all under the marketing umbrella which jls etc are doing today

This is Marketing....Has no connection with being manufactured...You are confusing the two.

In fact....The majority of the dolls etc...had no connection with the Beatles what so ever...People just went ahead and made them.

One of the biggest Mistakes Epstein made....The Beatles saw none of the money.

Next you will say that the Doors were manufactured as there existed a morrison doll

Get a grip mate, Do some research before posting its cringe worthy.
