If you could present one current PC game to a 1980's gaming audience, what would it be?

You have the chance to go back to the 1980's and take one game with you (hardware is irrelevant for this case) to showcase how far the gaming industry has come in those 30 or so years.

You need to wow the gaming audience with it's graphics, show them how far we've come in level design and give them examples of next generation artificial intelligence and anything else you might think impress them.

The game must be between the years 2001 and 2011.

What would you pick?

Mine would have to be Skyrim. While the AI isn't anything special, it is still worth showing off simply because nothing like this has ever been seen in the 80's.
The main reason I'd showcase it is the sheer scale of the game and what a developer can put into a title. I think the streaming technology would really make them think and impress them considering how many hours you can play and still not see the entire game.
Lastly, the graphics. Whilst not the best in certain places/model, it is still such a beautiful game, especially the environment and it's effects. I think it'd really wow the audience when seeing something like the northern lights.

The old elder scrolls games had way bigger worlds than the new ones :p

Bethesda claims that the scale of the game is equal to twice the size of Great Britain: around 487,000 square kilometers. The game world features over 15,000 towns, cities, villages, and dungeons for the player's character to explore. According to Todd Howard, Game Director and Executive Producer for Bethesda Game Studios, the game's sequel, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, is 0.01% the size of Daggerfall

From a technical & graphical point of view I'd say BF3.

Not saying it's the best every game in the world, but it's a good benchmark on how good graphics have become since the 80's. I remember those days well. :D

Defcon - So I can show Matthew Broderick that he did really cause millions of deaths from sneaky nuke subs, just like in wargames.
Star Wars Battlefront series - Show George Lucas how daft it would be to make a series of prequel movies with carribean-talking cgi animated annoying Jar-Jar Binks and that talking bug/elephant garage owner.

Seriously, if you showcase any violent game or generic fps, it would get banned instantly in the 1980's. Remember Barbarian? Caused uproar in the press and Commons as it contained a pixelated head being lobbed off!!

X3. The game world would be enormous for someone in the 80s, the graphics would just blow their minds, and to space sim afficionados speifically, the fact that you can fly anything from a tiny fighter to a gigantic carrier would just be...well, cream-your-jeans time. :)

Arma 2. For similar reasons to X3 actually. I think Arma 2 is a much better demonstration of a massive outdoor environment that's fully explorable than, say, Skyrim, because all the bad things about the Elder Scrolls games (like the AI) would be too embarrassing to use as an example of how far gaming has come. In my opinion. :D

Eve Online. An obvious one, this. It's a MMORPG for a start, and I don't believe any other game has as many concurrent players on a single server. Plus there's the wow factor in that everything is pretty much player-driven. Someone from the 80s would be absolutely amazed that pretty much every item on the market, for example, is being sold by players to players.

Amnesia. Even taking the technological differences into account, I don't think there were really any scary games in the 80s, were there? Amnesia would give 'em heart attacks. :D

Absolutely agree with these two

"oh is that Elite I see you playing there?", *introduce X3*.

Similarly would love to see someone introduced to amnesia :D

I'd probably add modded Crysis in there, or some sort of CryEngine 3 tech demo just for demonstrating features.
