As title, got a DS210j Synology NAS and have downloaded their apps for music/photo/file vieiwng on the iPad 2 and they work a treat.

Whats the best way/app to stream video from the NAS to the iPad 2?
ie I want to be able to access the video shares and watch a film from it.

What i do in just log in to my Synology using safari on port 7000 (i think is the default port for File Station) and you can play ios friendly video files direct from there. That's on my iphone but it should be the same on ipad.

so just open safari on your ipad and type in the address bar eg. 192.168.1.10:7000 (if 192.168.1.10 if the IP of your syno), log in, navigate to the videos and select what you want to watch. the first time you select a file you'll see a little animation on the right hand side and a play arrow appear... click on the play arrow

or if you use openDNS/static IP and port forwarding on your router you can log in remotely and do exactly the same. Just forward port 7000 on your router to your synology

edit
port 7000 for http or port 7001 if using https

monkeyspank - try the DS File App mentioned in the blog - I use it on the iPad and find it much easier than navigating using Safari. There is also an app for viewing photos via PhotoStation - again much easier and nicer than using Safari.

The photo and music apps are great. Just tried teh DS File app for viewing video and it didnt seem to work. Shall persevere though. Great for accessing files though!
